» (Update 12/13/12)
I finally replaced the AA alkaline battery that I put in when it was new. The clock has ran consistently for 16 months w/o losing a beat. The only thing it lost was about 2-3 seconds behind the hour so I'm extremely happy with this clock.

(original review)
I bought this to replace another non-ticking clock because it had 'gravitational' problems caused by the Youngtown 12888 movement. Surprisingly, this new Bai wall clock also uses the same movement, so with that said it could of easily gotten 5-stars if it weren't for this.

The Clock:
First of all, I love this clock! I love the design, the built quality and size, it seems to be the perfect clock for any decor and by all means the clock does NOT look or feel cheap up close. The body is made of REAL brushed-aluminum (not plastic w/ silver spray paint), it has a flat-glass lens unlike most clocks with a curved or 'convex' lens which produces glare. The face dial is bright and clear and the numbers are really easy to read with all three distinctive metal hands - black 'Broader' hour hand, black 'Slimmer' minute hand and a 'Thin' orange second sweeping hand which is virtually dead silent. So far it has been accurate to the second. I am extremely picky about my clocks and I set them starting with the second-hand cued from the 12:00 position so that every minute starts when it sweeps to 12! So far, for 4 days every minute has consistently turned at the 60-second mark!

Movement:
As mentioned earlier, I'm not a big fan of Youngtown Movements (Taiwan, but clock made in China). This clock and the one I replaced so happens to use the same make.

I looked online for weeks to find a simple, quiet wall clock. I was surprised to find many ugly clocks and many ticking, loud clocks. Is it so hard to make a simple clock? Anyway, I'm very happy with my purchase. This clock is very easy to read from far away, the movement is precise and smooth, and it's completely silent. It goes with any decor, and there's just nothing to complain about it.

Says quiet sweep on box and in Amazon ad but is definately not quiet nor is it a sweep movement. i.e, is jerky. Also feels, looks cheaply made and you don't get a battery. Not even one star.

Anybody who knows of a quality quiet sweep wall clock please pipe up.

Others have had this problem for some time now. It is not a bad shipment, it is a bad company. I have asked Amazon to stop selling this or at least delete the written claim that it is a quiet sweep.

Update-5 months later. Found a wholesaler of silent sweep movements, Ronellclock.com. Viewed their catalog on line but they don't sell direct online and no real phone access but only to clock repair shops but the weird exception is you can buy a few of their movements on ebay. 2 offerings in silent sweep, a Youngtown MTW-80 and a Seiko MTW-84. 84 has higher torque and will handle longer hands but I just did the 80 in the shortest shaft version. You could use one with a longer shaft though, by simply putting a large rubber washer in back between movement and clock to move movement slightly rearward, thus preventing hands from hitting glass. Metal washer can create a noise. It's all very easy, you'll see.

Movements come with hands which you select and you will need them because the original hands on the Bai won't fit on to this new movement. If plain rectangular hands are too long just cut them. The original nice red second hand is transferable. Clock comes apart easily by just removing V shaped wires on back.

Now love the clock. Only alternative is to buy the Seiko clock (round wood frame) offered elsewhere on Amazon but a lot of people complained of hands being too close to glass and catching. Don't know if you could solve this by putting a spacer in back as described above as I don't own one.

Keeps time accurately. Not much else to be said. It is in an outdoor (very protected) location. Although it looks like the the hands "glow in the dark", they do not. Would have been a great feature, but not a deal breaker. Easy read, accurate, what's left to say?

I was looking for a clock with a continuous sweeping (silent) second hand. This clock's description is a sweeping second hand. The clock has a Young Town 12888 timepiece with a step-type (ticking) second hand. I can hear it from 30+ feet away and through the wall in the adjoining room.

Additionally; the aluminum sides protrude about an inch past the clock face so as you view the clock from an angle, more and more of the numbers on the near side are blocked from view. You can just start to see this effect in the product photo.

The clock was for my elderly mother who often has problems reading clocks. She
has no problem with this clock. It serves a clocks main purpose -- to easily read the time, nothing fancing. The only issue is that it is not completely quiet. Though quieter than most analog clocks, in a small bedroom at night you can still hear each tick. It doesn't bother my Mom since she is hard of hearing but it would bother me. Outside of a bedroom this wouldn't be an issue.
