Brussel's Golden Gate Ficus Bonsai

The first tree I ordered was badly scarred by wires. The company replaced it quickly with a very nice tree that had a great shape. The ficus is great if you have little natural light. My apartment is very dark and the tree did fine off of the artificial light. That said, this is NOT a tree for beginners. Ficus are notoriously finicky. They like regular water and the same light conditions day after day. Each time you vary the routiine significantly, it will drop all of its leaves. Moreover, this plant was hard to water. The pot doesn't have enough room for the water to soak in, so I had to use a spray bottle and lots of patience. It needs to be watered daily.

In short: good choice if you just don't have any good light, bad, bad choice for a first Bonsai or if you are forgetful or travel.

First ...I ordered this tree and saw that it was shipping from a warm place to where I am with 6 inches of snow on the ground. It arrived within a few days, packed very securely, in great shape ready to go.

Secondly ... It was an early Christmas present, by a few weeks. There was concer with the 'WILL IT SURVIVE UNTIL CHRISTMAS' factor ... WOW ... this little tree with a few leaves on it, is going gang-busters. There's a ton of new branches, not just leaves. It looks incredible.

Third ... This is a gift that my whole family is enjoying. It's a little 'miracle' that we are monitoring closely everyday.

I orderded my first bonsai plant ever in my entire life online and I have to say I was rather onedge as to how it would arrive or be packed.

Well I live in the Great Northwest where it is plenty cold and my plant arived at my place of work and was placed in my wharehouse by UPS and it was there for a day before I arrived back to work.

Never the less it arrived in perfect health and was packaged very well indeed and I was impressed to say the least.

I think this bonsai is absolutley fantastic and I give a five star thumbs up to buussel's and amazon for a terrific product.

In fact I loved it so much that I just now placed my second order for another plant on this 8th day of January 2006 and I have no doubts that it will be just as nice if not better than the first.

I would highly recommend this product and I will continue to order more for my own personal collection I'm absolutley that impressed.

I have had this tree for 3 months and it is still alive! Get a spray bottle to water. They love light. It should be watered everyday, I get to it maybe every 3 and it is fine.

Remarkably, the plant arrived in excellent condition, solidly packed, and healthy. It has thrived in limited light and with a cavalier attitude towards watering. The care instructions recommended using an overflow bowl to retain water, but none was included with the product, and I couldn't locate one that was compatable with the attractive pot in which it was planted. I wound up having to repot the tree in order to comply with the instructions

This is the first time I've ordered from Brussel's and I have to say I'm a little leary about ordering from them again. My experience wasn't all bad. The tree was cheap and came promptly. Also it appears to be quite healthy and was well packed. However, while this might be a good starter tree for someone just learning how to keep a bonsai alive, it isn't a good option for someone who is a more developed bonsai enthusiast.

First the tree I got is somewhat mishapen. The trunk is poorly proportioned (being thick on the bottom and the top and narrow in the center). It is also twisted in an rather unaethestically pleasing manner and has terrible wiring scars. Also when it arrived it was a little hacked up. It seemed that someone might have tried to prune it blindfolded.

Indeed, the tree is so ugly that next spring I might just cut off the top third of the tree I received try to get it to root and discard the rest.

If you're in for a big project and want to start a new tree for cheap, this is definitely an option. Howevever, one shouldn't expect to get a tree that's ready to grow into a prize winning bonsai without a whole heap of TLC for less than $30.

this tree arrived VERY quickly (in 3 days). it was very well packed, only one little leaf fell off during shipping; the soil was still moist when i received it. we've had it for 3 weeks now and it's doing well (we've never been able to keep a plant alive for more than a few months, so we're keeping our fingers crossed). you'll definitely need to buy a little tray for underneath the tree.
the only reason i gave it 4 stars is...i'd like to see slightly better "care instructions".
overall, i'm very happy, would definitely order again.

I didn't really expect this tree to last long. I gave it to my boyfriend as a gift because he wanted to try his hand at his first bonsai tree. I figured he'd have it for a little while, have some fun with it, and then it would die. No big deal since it wasn't very expensive. Luckily, I've been pleasantly surprised. He's had the tree for over 3 months now and it's looking great. He definitely takes care of it (waters it regularly, trims it, and turns it so it gets even sun) but he doesn't put a lot of time into it. It's very low maintenance and looks great. I'm thinking about getting one for myself. It came very well packaged. The tree had a good shape to it when it arrived and was healthy. I'd definitely recommend this as a great little starter bonsai (even for people like us who know nothing about plants and bonsai trees).

Update: It's been over a year since I got this tree and it's still doing great. It continues to get new growth and he's been able to train some branches to grow in different directions and change the shape of the tree. We don't know much about plants but it's been easy to keep this tree alive and enjoy it.

great Bonsai! it was much nicer than the one pictured!A GREAT bargain!...as most have already said, this was packaged extremly well! I have ordered several bonsai from Brussel's. I highly reccomend them..excellent customer service! questions are answered promptly and respectfully! This is a great Bonsai at a great price!

Extremely fast packing and shipping. Tree carefully wrapped. Ficus looked great on first arrival, and still does a month later.
