Great service and I love this plant,

I received the bonsai very quickly (3 days). Very good service for a live plant purchase online. Even better was the free shipping. The bonsai came packaged very securely and I had no problems. I love the fact that the plant tag specified the cultivar of the Acer palmatum. There's nothing worse than buying a no ID plant and trying to figure out what cultivar of the plant you have to determine plant culture. I received a Acer palmatum 'Atropurpureum', I'm not sure if they will always be selling this specific cultivar though. This specific cultivar will exhibit deep red color in Spring, Summer, and Fall. I am very happy with this purchase. I will be looking at more plants from Brussels in the future.

I recieved my tree in a very timely manner but I was a bit dissapointed after I managed to get it out of the box. It was nothing like the pictured tree (I did not expect a perfect match of course) and the described pot is wrong. It came in a rectangular green/blue glazed ceramic pot. It's a very nice pot, just not what was described. There is nothing physically wrong with the plant and it appears to be quite healthy so I may purchase another tree in the future.

The bonsai arrived rapidly and in good condition. Excellent packing and shipping. Good looking plant, but a bit smaller than the one depicted in the advertisment photos.

Friends gave me one for my birthday in January and I've enjoyed it ever since. It is exquisite - beautifully pruned little red maple tree. Picture does not do the plant justice. It arrived beautifully packaged and it was evident great care was taken in shipping the item. Shipping was quick. Some basic instructions are included with the tree, but a good basic bonsai book would come in handy. I will happily order from Brussel's again.

I am very disappointed in this item. The tree upon arrival was unhealthy with spotty leaves. The pot is not as pictured. Although I have followed instructions exactly as given, the tree died in a matter of weeks. Very sad. :(

Not as advertised,

Delivery of Product: A+++ Product: D- The tree arrived within three days of being shipped. The tree was very well packaged. Description of product was completly wrong. Description said "Red Maple, 12 to 16 inches tall, blue ceramic pot, Larger trunk base". What I received: Green Maple, 18 inches tall (top of the pot to top of tree), tan pot. "Larger Trunk Base" is a general statement and is in the eye of the beholder. Numerous leaves were spotty. In the end I am going to buy a different Red Maple tree.

Despite the fact that I followed the on-screen instructions on how to care for the plant, it's half dead after a couple weeks. Most of the leaves are dry and curled under. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!

I was surprised to see this on offer on Amazon, but decided to give it a try. My husband is the caretaker of bonsai trees, and we both admire the beauty of the Japanese maple.
What a treat this was! It was packaged carefully, arrived quickly, and has become a mainstay in our home. I would highly recommend that if you see a plant you love via Amazon, order it. It's quick, it's painless, it's wonderfully easy! (We've now had this for over a year!)

Shipping was timely but specimen is poor. Several key branches were topped out already. Will never be prime specimen.

I recently bought two Japanese red maples--one in a five gallon nursery bucket, the other in a Bonsai pot from Brussels. The two purchases make an interesting comparison/contrast.
The tree in the nursery bucket (already transplanted) is presicely what it is--a healthy young tree that is still some years away from attainting a mature look, beautiful as it already is. The tree from Brussels--and this is probably my tenth tree from Brussels in the last couple of years--is equally beautiful, an absolute joy to look at. But like all the other young trees I've ordered, it isn't actually a bonsai, not yet. What one gets from Brussels (in the $25-$75 range) is a lovely little tree that is in the early stages of becoming a bonsai. And that's precisely how customers should view their purchase. Cultivating these young trees into full-blown bonsais is the customer's task, and that takes years. Too many of the negative reviews that this company gets are from customers with unreal expectations of their modest purchase--or who acted on a whim and seem to have no real experience or patience with cultivating growing things. Then you have the real bone-heads, who fail to understand that a deciduous tree purchased out-of-season is naturally going to arrive leafless. A note about this particular tree: the foilage is delicate and the tree arrives compressed from even the light-weight peanuts used for packing. Unpack the tree, place it oudoors, and let breeze and sunlight (morning or filtered) do their work. The tree will begin to fluff back into shape in just a matter of days. Also, these trees begin to lose their brilliant redness when shaded and can begin to fade and actually turn green very, very quickly. A three-day transit in a closed container can create a noticeable difference. Be patient. Once unpacked and placed outside in bright but gentle light, the tree will once again take on its lovely, deep-red hues. Incidentally, this tree cost about the same as the one in the nursery bucket. Only this one looks like a minature tree with full bonsai potential, and it comes in a lovely bonsai pot. All in all, a bargain. |
