Arno Hintjens is one of the most amazing francophone singers I've ever heard. A Belgian artist, he sings in both French and English. Musically, I hear roots rock and electric blues, but he sings like no one else I've heard. "Brussld" is one of Arno's best works, though I have to admit I most love his live albums, especially "Live in Brussels," mostly because his band mates cut loose and do such amazing things on stage (especially the lead guitar player). The songs on "Brussld" are quite varied, but remain pure Arno. His take on Peter Tosh's "Get up, Stand Up" here become's Arno's song, with its slow, challenging attitude. From the first heavy drumming of "Black Dog Day" to the two closing ballads, "Brussld" covers a lot of musical territory. In fact, every CD by this singer is like visiting a new country. His album "Covers Cocktail" is just that--an amazing cocktail of covers of songs from The Rolling Stone, The Beatles, David Bowie, Dave Davies, Captain Beefheart, and others. Those songs are collected from various CDs and incarnations of Arno the performer. Finally, another unique Arno CD is "Charlatan," on which he comes off as a kind of warped edition of Tom Waits. Anyone who loves adventures in music should pick up a few of Arno's albums.
