4.0 out of 5 stars What is up with the Whistles?
Good concert. Audio is good (but not stellar). Video is good...but definitely not reference quality. Overall a very enjoyable concert with some great classic Bryan Adams material.

My only serious gripe is with the crowd. What is up with the folks in Ireland? The people at the concert thought it would be fun to bring their own whistles...you know, the kind that...

Bryan Adams has had a serious make-over since 18 TIL I DIE. That album laid to rest the scrappy and scruffy Bryan Adams and gave birth to a more adult contemporary, dare I say, fashionable BA. The album photos revealed a more sophisticated BA, and this DVD is an extension of that new artist. The stage and lighting is artistic and highly conceptual. The bands clothes...

Good concert. Audio is good (but not stellar). Video is good...but definitely not reference quality. Overall a very enjoyable concert with some great classic Bryan Adams material.

My only serious gripe is with the crowd. What is up with the folks in Ireland? The people at the concert thought it would be fun to bring their own whistles...you know, the kind that sound like a police whistle. Instead of cheering...they blow these high-pitched/shrill whistles every chance they get. The problem is that occasionally they do it even during the songs. VERY ANNOYING. If I was in the crowd, I probably would have strangled a few people. I wished they could have dis-allowed this practice...especially for a recorded concert event. It almost ruins the concert and is really just plain RUDE.

If you can block it out...you will enjoy the show. If you can't (and I almost can't), you will want to skip this one...or sell it after you watch it a couple of times and make a decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, June 30, 2002

Bryan Adams puts on a great show in this DVD. Each of the songs he performs is fantastic except for "When You're Gone." The only flaw in the song is the special guest Bryan brings out on stage, Mel. C. She performs in the recorded version of the song and she's great in it but something has happened to this woman since then. She looks terrible and her voice is even worse. Aside from that the rest of the concert is wonderful. I really don't understand why there are three bonus songs. Why weren't they just put in with the rest of the concert? Is it to make consumers think they are getting more bonus material than they actually are? The interview with Bryan and his band members is really good though.

One word to Bryan: White isn't your color.

BA is in the best voice that I have ever heard from him. I am an old fan - I have heard everything from BA - and most of the songs in this concert were better than his recorded/radio versions. His voice seems to have gotten better with age. (No, really!) It was unusual to have the concert done with only a three-piece band, but I enjoyed it...but it would have been better with another guitar to fill out the sound. The editing was excellent, blending shots from many different cameras and angles in order to keep the DVD moving.

The extras are good - but the band interview could have been much better and in depth. I especially liked the photo gallery included as an extra on this DVD. Overall, an excellent buy and a must for any BA enthusiast.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'VE WAITED A LONG TIME FOR THIS!, December 30, 2001

This DVD is a must for any music fan and a must-must for any BA fan. I have to disagree with some critics who claim that there are too many "empty spaces" due to the lack of band members. BA has produced a newer raw sound to his live music as a three piece in the last two years and he plays bass very well. Outstanding tracks in my opinion are "Into the Fire" and "Back to You" but every track is the dogs! The DVD captures the atmosphere well but I just wish they could have made a video of BA at Wembley '96 - if they had - five stars would not have been enough! Buy this and wake up the neighbours.

4.0 out of 5 stars BA Live at Slane Castle....Must Have for a BA fan!!!!!, December 21, 2001

This review is from: Bryan Adams - Live at Slane Castle (DVD)
I just finished veiwing this DVD for the first time. Anyone who has seen him in the last two years has basically seen this show. He has been sticking to the same basic format with his three piece band. I have seen several three piece shows live and really enjoyed them but I have to say they sounded a lot better live than on this DVD. For some reason it is very "empty" sounding. Maybe you do not realize it so much when your actually there but it is very evident when viewing the DVD. I do not know why he doesn't fill in the group when they are on tour or at least for this concert!!! The stage has been "fluffed" up some with more lighting and some fireworks which is an unusual but a nice change for BA. Over all the songs are great (most of the best are included), the crowd energy is awesome and for any BA fan it is a must have for your collection. A real treat is the Chicane song. It sounded awesome and the crowd went crazy!!! Anyone who enjoys watching or listening to live music will enjoy this DVD!!! I am a huge BA fan and will watch it over and over until the next DVD is released (I hope there will be more)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bryan Adams is the best Canadian performer EVER!, November 18, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bryan Adams - Live at Slane Castle (DVD)
I went to the Bryan Adams concert in Edmonton, Alberta Canada on Thursday November 13th 2003. It was amazing! Bryan is the best Canadian performer EVER! This DVD is excellent, I have had it for over a year and watch it at least once a month. The "live" aspect is so much better than watching a series of music videos.. you really see him for who he is. I would recommend this DVD to anyone!

The bands clothes and overall vibe seem very "VH-1" (for lack of a better adjective). They pull it off quite well, as we can't stay 18 forever. The only gripe then is the actual performance. Without the benefit of a 2nd guitar player AND keyboardist, it is impossible for the BA band to recreate the sound of the original recordings, especially from the Mutt Lange era (Waking up the Neighbours and 18). The crowd picks up the slack however, raising the energy level as the night goes on. I loved the look of this DVD and the audio is actually quite good, but without a full band...it's hard to give it a perfect score.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!! WHAT DVD A MUST FOR ANY FAN, December 27, 2001

After the last dvd MTV Unplugged i wasnt expecting too much with this dvd but my chin was on the floor when i first played it, it certainly made my christmas.

The live concert itself was brilliant the usual interactive Bryan getting the crowd involved all the way and with the very special surroundings of Slane Castle.

The backstage footage is just brilliant with interviews bonus tracks, rehersals etc etc. My only complaint is that the very anoying MEL C was there and she just ruins 'When Your Gone' The Girl that gets pulled out of the crowd must be the luckiest person in the world

A FIVE STAR DVD (I WANT MORE LIKE THIS)

This is a great DVD, it has Bryan at his best. There are songs from almost every album. The majority of the songs are fast and upbeat, and the slow songs are done beautifully. Special guests are Davy Spillane, Mel C. and Nick (Chicane), it even has the audience member that Bryan pulls up to sing with him and Mel. The interviews are great, and the 360 camera puts everything into a different perspective. This is a must have dvd, I hope Bryan does more like this soon!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not say I didn't warn you, October 4, 2002
This review is from: Bryan Adams - Live at Slane Castle (DVD)
I consider myself a fan, but NOOO!! this dvd is not what you expect! You can be sure! the sound is hardly 5.1 the picture quality is not the best, but what is unbelievable is that Bryan Adams being the star he is, agreed to release this dvd. Do not expect good extra features. He is not playing the guitar, God what was he thinking when he decided to play the Bass instead?
The Band reduced to 3 people why? A poor scenerio (pure white), no good shots, no exciting at all, the camera man was lost in the world focusing on the crowd and not in Bryan. Even if the songs are great (that's true) consumers and fans deserve a better deal in a dvd. This dvd is kind of boring. I already got rid of my copy. I was so disappointed.
Technology is there why do not use it?
The MTV unplugged version is better, but does not include all his greatest songs, unfortunately "Live at Slane Castle" has a better selection of Bryan's hits. But before buying it, rent it or borrow it from a friend so you can be sure what you will get.
There was a dvd released in Japan with all Bryan best videos, but it was not 5.1 and just a few could get a copy. It can not be found anymore.
Bryan we are waiting...We are sure you have much more to offer and you can give your fans a little extra and a true 5.1 or even better a dts dvd.
