5.0 out of 5 stars The Cross-Over Album Of The Year, January 21, 2008

Ok, if you like metal music, there is no possible way you won't like this album. Maximum the Hormone hails from Japan and is the only band I can think of which has the opputunity to really cross-over into the States. That being said, most people will understandably find their way to this band from the anime Death Note, which is being aired on Cartoon Network fyi.

Anyway, this band has three singers: a rapper, the lead and a girl, all of which add a dynamic that is literally unheard of. The heavy parts are heavy and the lighter parts are catchy and uplifting. Where as most American Metal bands become cornered in their own box of medocrity, Maximum The Hormone has found a way to consitently sound fresh, new, and metal.

This is an amazing album that shouldn't go overlooked. O, and don''t worry about the language barrier, unless that is, your one of the few rare people who can actually understand screaming in metal songs. And yes, they do sing in both American and Japanese.

This album is just awesome. Featuring last opening (what's up, people!!) and ending (Zetsubo Billy) from Death Note, powerful songs like "Koi no mega raba" and funny stuff like "Chu Chu Lovely Mun.." track 11, it's just one of the best j-rock album I've ever heard ^_^'

5.0 out of 5 stars Your favourite new band!, October 28, 2008
This review is from: Bu Ikikaesu (Audio CD)
Absolute proof that language barriers can be overcome by truly awesome music!

Maximum the Hormone is the smouldering wreckage of a Death Race pile-up between the screamingly mental System of a Down thrash mobile, The Ramones monster pick-up truck of hooks and the R.H.C.Peppers funked-up, psychedelic VW Camper all ploughing head first into Motorhead's Harley of riffs, the cold, corpse carrying hearse of Napalm Death and The Ronettes sugar truck.

It's fast, funky, catchy, noisy, snotty, loud, infectious and brilliant. & Maximum the Hormone are guaranteed 2b your new favourite band if you like any of the above mentioned bands :o)

Don't have reservations, try it!

This CD is a perfect blend of punk and metal with a little ska thrown in on a few songs. If you put White Zombie/Rob Zombie, Rancid, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Avril Lavigne in a blender- then put it all in Japanese- you'd have Maximum the Hormone.

I originally bought this CD for the beginning and ending theme songs from the anime "Deathnote", but the entire CD is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, but fair warning...., April 8, 2008
This review is from: Bu Ikikaesu (Audio CD)
I purchased this item through the amazon listings and I am very happy with my purchase, I am just writing a review on some of the content of this CD. I purchased this CD for the two tracks "what's up people" and "zetsubou billy" featured in the anime Death Note and for me this was worth the purchase alone. In my opinion, what's up people is the hardest song on this cd and I was expecting to hear a few songs rival it in intensity. The sound of all of their songs are very unique, going from metal to alternative to j-pop sounds, sometimes all in the same song. So to summarize, great album, but dont expect it to be quite as dark as the cover artwork would suggest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Always improves the mood, December 29, 2009

Bu Ikikaesu is, flat out, an amazing album. I mean, if you are reading these reviews, you have already heard everyone else say so. The majority of Maximum The Hormone's best work is on this album. For those who haven't listened to their work or are unfamiliar with the band, I am unsatisfied classifying Maximum as J-rock. Their style is rather unique and stands out in an amazing way. Personally, I like to this of Maximum as Punk Metal. They are upbeat while still holding to a heavier style. The vocals (there are 3 vocalists: The lead singer, Daisuke; the guitarist, Maximum; and the drummer, Nao) bounce back and forth seamlessly from light-hearted to thrash and back again. This the kind of music that will make you move! It doesn't matter if you just want to head bang solo or if you are at a party; there is never a bad time to play Maximum The Hormone. I realize this sounds like amazingly high praise. I think they deserve it though. If I haven't convinced you yet, watch a few of their videos on youtube. My recommendations:

What's Up, People?!

Bikini. Sports. Ponchin'

Koi No Megalover (this video reminds me of Pretty Fly For A White Guy...in a good way)

Not on this album but worth a listening to is their song Mr. Boogie Tambourine Man. That ALWAYS puts me in a great mood. Either way, you can't go wrong with Maximum The Hormone. One of the best things to ever come out of Japan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who would have thought..., June 26, 2008
This review is from: Bu Ikikaesu (Audio CD)
...that the best CD of last year would be by a Japanese band. But that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Seriously, Bu Ikikaesu is arguably the best CD release of 2007. Yes, the lyrics, with the exception of a few odd tossed in English words, are all in Japanese, and yes, they don't seem to make a lot of sense in either Japanese or English translation. So what? This group has nailed down the pure sound of music better than any American or English metal band I can think of.

Most people familiar with thisband know them through the Death Note opening and closing songs "What's Up People" and "Zetsubo Billy". Both good songs - but there are others as good or better, including the title track, Koi no Megalover (which has a hilarious video well worth checking out on youtube), Kuso Breakin' no Breakin' Lilly, and several others. There's not a bad cut on the CD.

If only they would tour in the US...

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, March 24, 2008
This review is from: Bu Ikikaesu (Audio CD)
I was fortunate enough to see this group when they were one of four openers for the Dropkick Murphys and I ordered their CD as soon as I found it online. The group is super tight and have a great knowledge of the genre. I don't normally buy imports because of their price, but I'm really glad I made the exception this time. As other reviewers have said, if you enjoy metal, GET THIS CD! It will not disappoint.
