We started by checking out the Bubba and Beau books from the library, but quickly found we read them every day and the books were due back. So, we bought the books, and (as Appelt would put it) honey, it was better than pickled eggs! Meet the Relatives has to be my personal favorite of the 3. Can't help but read it with a slight twang. We enjoy it so much, we're sending the books to cousins to enjoy...

I loved this book so much I sent it as a gift to one of my niece's for her birthday. It is a must to read in your best southern accent!

The author, Kathi Appelt, is a very fortunate woman because her illustrator, Arthur Howard, is the best there is in kids' books. And as such, Howard makes this book doubly worth the purchase. Howard is the illustrator of the wonderful Mr. Putter series by Cynthia Rylant.

A cute little story about Bubba meeting all his relatives including little Beau who is about the same age as Bubba, a baby.

After the fussy, kissy introductions, Bubba and Beau thoroughly enjoy their day playing in the mud, playing in water in the truck, making a mess of their lunches, until it is time for Beau and all the relatives to head home.

The illustrations will really keep a child's attention, along with the cute story.

I love the original Bubba and Beau book .. mostly for it's goofy southern twang. Often the follow on books try to hard to maintain the same feel but only ended up a bad imitation of the first. That is NOT the case here. This book maintains the same tongue in cheek humor and makes the kids giggle. Both my 4 and 2 year old daughters like this book and the funny drawings that accompany the story!

If your kids adore babies and puppies, then they're gonna be bowled over by Kathi Appelt's Bubba and Beau series. Heck, even if they don't, this pair is mighty hard to resist. Plus, new to this book is a sweet baby girl cousin and her frou-frou doggie. No matter how different they may look from Bubba and Beau, the mud hole serves as the great family equalizer.

This adorable southern foursome literally charms the pants off the relatives. Who knew a pick-up truck could make such a cool backyard pool?

Appelt's language is so fun to read, you'll be sounding like a native Texan in no time. And Howard's charming pencil and watercolor illustrations make you wanna pinch Bubba's cheeks until they fall off. Yesiree, he's one fine little Bubba.

This is a quick, fun read and I suggest picking up the entire Bubba and Beau series. I wish Appelt would write more!

I got this book for my daughter (well for me too)we checked this out at the library and I loved it so much I bought it for us - it is too cute

My two toddler sons and I love these delightful little books full of warm family moments and quirky humor that both children and adults can appreciate. I particularly love the easy style of the illustrations that capture so completely the essence of baby/puppyhood! We hope this writer and illustrator team will create more "Bubba and Beau" books.

My 3 year old absolutely loves this book. She's crazy about both babies and dogs, and Bubba and Beau Meet the Relatives even introduces an adorable baby GIRL to the readers. Not quite as good as Bubba and Beau, Best Friends, but still a cute book.

The other reviews are right on, these books are adorable, and my children and I just love them. There is just one thing that is bothersome to me, for which I gave it 4 stars. And that is that the author uses the word "hate" in the book, referring to how Beau feels about his scratchy outfit. I don't believe that it's an apppropriate word to use around young children, and wouldn't want my children to repeat it. Since we love the book, it's not a problem, I just change it to "don't like" everytime. But I wanted to mention it for the benefit of other parents.
