Book Description

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to Pegramville…

Oh no! Bubba’s got problems…again! For months, Pegramville and Pegram County have been relatively peaceful. But then there’s the “attack” of the Pegramville Murder Mystery Festival, organized by none other than Miz Demetrice herself. Who knew people would make fun of the murders that happened in their own town? To add a spoonful of hot pepper to the mix, the local judge has just announced his run for the gubernatorial seat of Texas, and The Purple Singapore Sling has a new persona, causing all kinds of confusion, chaos, and commotion.

During the midst of the festival madness, Bubba’s truck has broken down, and he’s found a cache of original car parts. One of the boxes contains a lost soul’s plea that may be as old as the antique truck, “If someone finds this note, then I have been murdered. My name is M—.”

And you thought small towns were boring…

Book 4 of the Bubba series.

Book 1 - Bubba and the Dead Woman
Book 2 - Bubba and the 12 Deadly Days of Christmas
Book 3 - Bubba and the Missing Woman
Book 3.5 Brownie and the Dame (a novella)

5.0 out of 5 stars Bubba kicks butt December 16, 2012
By Mac
Format:Kindle Edition
I've read all of the Bubba novels and admit I didn't get the style out of the gate. Prolly (hahem) like I didn't appreciate beer the first time I tried it. C.L Bevill's voice is distinct, unique, and hilarious, and like a crisp, cold beer on a hot, East Texas summer afternoon. Her characters are marvelous. Her humor cracks me up. I've enjoyed all of the series, but this was absolutely the best. Kudos, Ms. Bevill.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sadly, Not My Favorite January 31, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have loved the Bubba books. The stories, the characters, the down home fun...they all come together to make for extremely enjoyable reading.
I was so thrilled to see that a new Bubba tale was available. Unfortunately, after reading it, I have to admit to feeling let down. It took me days to get through this book. The zany characters were still there, the mystery was decent, but I felt this story just dragged on and there was too much superfluous goofiness. Instead of being charming, like the other books in the series, it felt a bit forced and tired.
I have loved reading about Bubba and Willodean's blossoming romance, but what has happened to her? She was always professional and no nonsense, but she came across as shrill and not very attractive in this book.

If there is another Bubba book, I will most definitely read it. I just hope it will be more true to the series than this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the others January 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love Bubba, but I had this one figured out from the start.Aside from that, there are a couple of knitpicking issues that didn't sit well with me. I love the characters but if I hear the word "crap" corrected to "carp" again I might scream. It was also a bit much to have the real townsfolk named Justin Thyme, and Penny Sillin, I could see one of them, but two was a bit much (and they were also a couple). It was a bit of overkill because the town is in the midst of a "Murder Mystery Festival" and the victims all had silly names as well ( Bob Pullifinger, Scarlett Looseknickers). Maybe the other Bubba stories were just so good that this one looks average in comparison. I'm still glad that I bought it though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheesy January 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The first Bubba books were interesting; this one goes overboard with "cute" to the point of being distracting. Story line was great, all that other foolishness needs to be toned down (e.g., alliterated chapter titles, misuse and abuse of metaphors -- a little bit is fun, more than just tries too hard).
