By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fly & Bubble Fishing Techniques (Paperback)
Allen Druke shares more than 45 years of fishing experience and expertise to give the reader in-depth, proven techniques for fly fishing with a bubble fly, both on the surface with dry flies and beneath with nymph patterns in Fly & Bubble Fishing Techniques. Allen covers bubble-fly basics, tackle needs, four key variables for successful fishing, retrieving near the surface, fishing deep, insects and other trout food sources, tips for fishing with the whole family, and more. The bubble-fly method is easy to learn and fun to use. Fly & Bubble Fishing Techniques is a highly recommended addition to any angler's "how to" reference shelf!

Not just for Trout Fishermen!,

An EXCELLENT book! Explains putting together and using a fly and clear plastic bubble set-up so anyone can add dry or wet flies to their fishing arsenal without having to master the use of a fly rod. 30 years ago, my family went fishing in Yellowstone Lake. The guy at the marina told us to use dry flies and a plastic bubble. But he never showed us how to effectively rig the set-up. I still have that plastic bubble in my tackle box and now can actually use it. I fish for bluegill and they love insects. I have a fly rod, but get bored with using it very quickly as I just am not that good at it. I prefer my spin-casting rods. Using the clear plastic bubble will allow me to hunt for my "Bull Gills" in a new way.Even though the discussion in the book is entirely aimed toward the pursuit of trout, all of the material can easily be applied to bluegill, bass, or any other fish that goes after bugs, worms, minnows, or crayfish (I think that covers about all species!). Its a quick read, very succinct, and well-written. I highly recommend it to any fisherman who wants to use flies and poppers with spinning, baitcasting, or spincasting equipment.

I had heard of the Fly & Bubble technique years ago in another book, Tight Lines by Roger Aziz, but there were no directions as to how to fish this method. Fly & Bubble Fishing Techniques by Allen Druke is just what I was missing. The book is fairly well written, easy to read, and an excellent source of solid information. Allen passes his years of experience on to the reader with clear cut instructions as to tackle selection. More importantly, Fly & Bubble Fishiing Techniques is a guide as to which flies to use, how to fish each with the bubble, and how weather conditions affect trout. I would highly reccomend anyone interested in learning this method of fishing try finding a copy of Fly & Bubble Fishing Techniques. You will be well rewarded.
