I'm about 1/3 completed on this stocking. I don't think I'll get it completed by Christmas, as I had hoped, but that is due to the lack of skill on my part as well as a late start.
I purchased this to make for my son, who loves the Christmas story. I have absolutely ZERO experience doing any time of embroidery or needlework. Truthfully, my skills leave some to be desired, but even with my ineptness, I am pleased with the outcome.
First, if you are a beginner, this is is do-able. However, do not expect the instructions to be in an "idiots guide" format. Yes, you will need to read the directions multiple times before even beginning the project and you will likely wear the paper out from reading and re-reading the instructions. But, they are clear enough to understand, even for me.
My only complaint would be that on all the colors of felt, other than the white, the pattern in stamped in a relatively narrow line. So, as you embroider it either comes up or is easy to disguise under the stitching. However, the pattern stamps on the white are difficult for me to fully cover and hide. It's somewhat annoying, particularly when you are using the gold floss, which does nothing at all in to disguise the ink. Oh well. I'm working around it and I also have recognized that as the pieces come together on the overall project, those black lines are not as noticeable as they are when you're working on an individual piece.
Come January, assuming I finally get this one done, I'll begin working on a stocking for my daughter for next Christmas. Understanding now the time it takes to do this project coupled with my rudimentary skills, I know I need to give myself ample time.

I've bought a few of these Bucilla kits for stockings and other home decor. I'm not a sewing pro, I've done a handful of sewing crafts in my lifetime. I love these kits! They include instructions layed out in step order, all the materials you'll need (except the filling and scissors) and a "map" of your project with matching numbers and symbols on everything so you'll know which step you are on. I have to admit that when I buy a new kit I totally forget how long it takes to make a stocking/wall hanging/etc... but it is worth it when you are making it for someone you know will love and appreciate the time and thought you put into creating a gift for them.
A tip: If you don't already have some, get some SHARP scissors! The felt can be hard to cut with just your every day scissors. Invest in some good quality sewing scissors and ONLY use them on fabric to keep them sharp. You'll have much better results.

I finished this one up and it is prettier than the picture. I was concerned about the ink on the white, as stated in an earlier review; the lines is thick and doesn't cover easily. However, the ink is in gold to match the gold metallic thread. The ink actually helps the gold show up better especial on the words at the toe. So I think that it is supposed to show through a bit. All the same I am very pleased with this stocking.
