4.0 out of 5 stars Rugged Buck for the price
I was taken back by the size of the Bantam, it is a little small, and it is made in China. But this knife shows no sign of inferior craftsmanship. It came to me razor sharp, and for the price this throw-away is a perfect everyday knife for rugged purposes. I took it out camping with me and carved shotgun slugs out of a tree, cooked and ate steaks with it (Not in that...

I've had this knife for 10 months now. When I first got it it was fairly hard to
open with one had with out your thumb slipping of the stud. It half way opens then
it gets easy to open the rest over the way. The blade had no play from side to side or up and down when new. After 10 months it has gotten some side to side play. The up and down lock up is still...

4.0 out of 5 stars Rugged Buck for the price, September 6, 2008
This review is from: Buck 284BK Small Bantam, Lock Back Folding Knife (Sports)
I was taken back by the size of the Bantam, it is a little small, and it is made in China. But this knife shows no sign of inferior craftsmanship. It came to me razor sharp, and for the price this throw-away is a perfect everyday knife for rugged purposes. I took it out camping with me and carved shotgun slugs out of a tree, cooked and ate steaks with it (Not in that order, of course), I cut and honed branches, turned screws, have pounded it into stumps, and cut open innumerable packages with this and it is still razor sharp with absolutely no nicks. This is a testament to Buck, and whether it be foreign or domestically made, I'm reaching for a Buck, especially this little surprise.

This is without a doubt the best knife I have ever owned. It arrives sharp and it STAYS sharp. Do yourself a favor and buy this knife. With a lifetime warranty what is not to like. It's not to big and not to small. Perfect !

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little knife, March 30, 2009

I wanted a knife to carry for those everyday little tasks that always seem to require a sharp edge. This knife was just what I was looking for.

It is a nice size, fits in your pocket without much trouble. It is very light, and seems reasonably well made. It was very sharp when it arrived, and I have been using it for a couple weeks with no sign of dulling yet.

I am not sure how well it would hold up to strenuous use (using it as a prybar), but for the price, who cares.

It passes my one major criterion for a pocket knife- I can open it (and close it) with one hand.

The knife has a nice action- it opens easily, snaps in to a locked position with a reassuring click. It is easy to close without having to put it into a position where you feel like your fingers are at risk.

I am not a real fan of its styling-but a pocket knife is not exactly a fashion accessory.

cheap and sturdy. Does not open quickly, but works well as a EDC knife, small and handy. razor sharp blade.. but it will not stand to any heavy duty task. As a collector i love the shape and design. i call it the baby face assassin...

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT KNIFE!, May 9, 2008

Just right for your pocket, not to big or small and VERY light.
Well made, locks up solid easy to open and close. I would have
loved a real wood handle but that would make it more costly and
not as light. Just a great value.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for average daily use, not for heavy use..., October 27, 2010

The up and down lock up is still
very tight. the tip of the knife is needle sharp. The very tip will bend over and after alot of use it will wear down to a good point. The blade steel is nothing special. It will dull when using it on
hard material (plastics, hard wood, nylon rope, ect) but it sharpens easily in little time.

I really wish it had a pocket clip. Mine falls out of my pocket alot.
Once I loose this one, I'll likely move up to a little better model.
For the price I do believe it to be VERY good and will tackle most daily task with relative ease.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive but sharp, April 6, 2008
This review is from: Buck 284BK Small Bantam, Lock Back Folding Knife (Sports)
Straightforward knife that is about as big as you would want to go in your pocket. The one hand open is smooth and works well. Lock open is solid. You will likely want to use both hands to close.

This knife is sharp! Eats through cardboard and packing tape. Not for the extra clumsy as I have drawn blood twice with very light pressure (once with the point and once with the edge).

I think I payed around $10 and am almost thinking of grabbing a few more encase I forget to put this in my carry on when I go on my next airline flight. ;-)

Glad I picked it up. Razor sharp out of the box. The handle has a spot for your index finger. It is hard plastic, but has a nice texture. Pick up a bunch and put one in your glove box. Great knife for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buck Bantam BBW, January 22, 2012

Decent knife. Opening is a bit stiff at first but should get better with time. Handle feels a bit cheap but for this price what can you expect. Lock up is strong and blade is nice. Didnt come as sharp as my gerbers did but it wasnt terrible either. Feels secure and is extremely light weight. Would recommend this to those looking for a sturdy, inexpensive knife. Dont forget buck's forever warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas gift, December 25, 2011

I got this knife as a Christmas present, and it is a great knife. After getting it, I immediately used it to cut a hole in the back of a bookcase. The knife didn't dull like I expected it to since the material was hard. I also used the knife to cut through several small plastic packages. It's built solid and seems like it will last a long time if you take proper care of it. Also, there is a metal back in the handle in the one I received so the handle doesn't bend like the one shown in the item picture. I don't know if Buck changed how they manufacture the knives, but this is how mine is. It feels great in the hand and doesn't take up much space in your pocket so it is easy to carry wherever you go. Overall, solid pocket knife for anyone looking for one.

Will edit review after I've had it for a couple months to update my impression of the knife and how it is holding up
