This review is from: Buck 301 Stockman Folding Pocket Knife (Sports)
I have just ordered what will be my third Buck 301. This will be my third, not because I wore the last two out, but because the others served me so well and were lost to unfortunate circumstances. The first stockman I owned was given to me by my father. It was a knife which he bought during the early 1970s at a military duty free store. That knife served me well for a few years before I left it at a friends house for an extended period and he lost it. The second was a replacement purchased for me by said friend who felt bad about losing my first. That knife went with me everywhere for another few years until, on a rather sentimental drinking binge, I gave it to my girlfriends brother. Too proud to ask him to return it to me when I sobered up, I ordered another the very next day. I love this knife.
I should let it be known that I am not a collector. I do not have hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of steel sitting in a glass case...I am merely a long time user of this product, and a person who really loves well made, simple, objects: zippo lighters, moleskine notebooks, and the Buck 301 Stockman.

You cant go wrong with the Buck product line. I bought this knife as a gift for my father-inlaw who had to surrender his at a soccer game. He really missed his old one but liked the updated grip on the 301. He is getting up there in age and appreciated having texture instead of the smooth surface on the vintage versions. the blades were sharp as hell right from the box, i couldnt have asked for more on a knife of this price range. He was pleased to have the 3 different blades but that wasnt a selling point for me. I needed a replacement for a knife that served him well for 20 something years and this will fit the bill. the knife will outlive him if he stays away from soccer games.

THE CONSUMMATE STANDARD,
By D. McAllister "MRD" (Somewhere in the Field) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Buck 301 Stockman Folding Pocket Knife (Sports)
Of all of the folding "pocketknives" offered by Buck, the STOCKMAN, 301, sets a standard that all other manufacturers unsuccessfully scramble to duplicate. Like its cousin, the FOLDING HUNTER, this knife, with its combination of three blades (clip, sheepsfoot and spey) is often copied but never duplicated, either in workmanship or quality.
Some may feel that the STOCKMAN is too big. I've never had any trouble fitting it in my pocket but not to worry. Buck's Series 300 folding pocketknives include a variety of sizes to meet virtually every need. Finally, like every Buck knife, the STOCKMAN, owing to its lifetime warranty, is the last knife of its kind that you will buy. If the knife is damaged during normal use, simply send it back to Buck and it will be replaced--no questions asked. THE HORSEMAN
