5.0 out of 5 stars best daily use knife I've ever seen!
I have just ordered what will be my third Buck 301. This will be my third, not because I wore the last two out, but because the others served me so well and were lost to unfortunate circumstances. The first stockman I owned was given to me by my father. It was a knife which he bought during the early 1970s at a military duty free store. That knife served me well for a...

1.0 out of 5 stars Made in Idaho
Made in USA, but defective.

The spey blade is ground improperly, plus it is hard to open and harder to close. It has no snap closing, in fact it has to be forced against a grinding resistance. I have four other Buck knives which are near perfect, so I am surprised. I even had a 301 I bought 25 or so years ago, and it was fine, but no beauty. Those five knives...

I have just ordered what will be my third Buck 301. This will be my third, not because I wore the last two out, but because the others served me so well and were lost to unfortunate circumstances. The first stockman I owned was given to me by my father. It was a knife which he bought during the early 1970s at a military duty free store. That knife served me well for a few years before I left it at a friends house for an extended period and he lost it. The second was a replacement purchased for me by said friend who felt bad about losing my first. That knife went with me everywhere for another few years until, on a rather sentimental drinking binge, I gave it to my girlfriends brother. Too proud to ask him to return it to me when I sobered up, I ordered another the very next day. I love this knife.

I should let it be known that I am not a collector. I do not have hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of steel sitting in a glass case...I am merely a long time user of this product, and a person who really loves well made, simple, objects: zippo lighters, moleskine notebooks, and the Buck 301 Stockman.

You cant go wrong with the Buck product line. I bought this knife as a gift for my father-inlaw who had to surrender his at a soccer game. He really missed his old one but liked the updated grip on the 301. He is getting up there in age and appreciated having texture instead of the smooth surface on the vintage versions. the blades were sharp as hell right from the box, i couldnt have asked for more on a knife of this price range. He was pleased to have the 3 different blades but that wasnt a selling point for me. I needed a replacement for a knife that served him well for 20 something years and this will fit the bill. the knife will outlive him if he stays away from soccer games.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE CONSUMMATE STANDARD, June 28, 2008

Of all of the folding "pocketknives" offered by Buck, the STOCKMAN, 301, sets a standard that all other manufacturers unsuccessfully scramble to duplicate. Like its cousin, the FOLDING HUNTER, this knife, with its combination of three blades (clip, sheepsfoot and spey) is often copied but never duplicated, either in workmanship or quality.

Some may feel that the STOCKMAN is too big. I've never had any trouble fitting it in my pocket but not to worry. Buck's Series 300 folding pocketknives include a variety of sizes to meet virtually every need.

Finally, like every Buck knife, the STOCKMAN, owing to its lifetime warranty, is the last knife of its kind that you will buy. If the knife is damaged during normal use, simply send it back to Buck and it will be replaced--no questions asked.

THE HORSEMAN

Have been using this knife for two years. This stockman is the perfect size for most household tasks and is a nice pocket knife for casual use. Has been used for box cutting, fruit paring, and a few other tasks on a daily basis. The edge and steel has stayed sharp and clean (i wash the knife and wipe with food-safe mineral oil every six months or so).

I have been very pleased with this knife. It's a keeper. One of the rare, U.S.-made bargains on the market today. Beware, however, if you are unfamiliar with the Buck product line: Buck has chosen to pollute its models with Chinese-made knives. You have to be careful if you want to purchase a Buck knife made in the U.S. One indication, though not absolute, is that the U.S. models are more expensive.

That said, I'm grateful that I can still buy this type of product via Amazon in this era of insane political correctness - I wonder how long before some fruitcake interest group will target on-line sales of knives as dangerous?

I have been a knife collector since I was a kid, I have over 100 knives and this folding knife is my favourite and one of three I use permanently.
It is an outstanding product not only from the design point of view (old time)but its cut capacity.
Congratulations BUCK:
Leon Duque.

I have owned a Buck 301 Stockman since 1976 when my Dad gave me one for Christmas. I recently retired it for fear of losing it. No other knife like it. Get One.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Knife, May 28, 2008
This review is from: Buck 301 Stockman Folding Pocket Knife (Sports)
I did not buy this knife on line. In fact, when I bought this knife "on line" didn't exist. My knife is about 35 years old and is a great tool. The blades hold their edge and the craftsmanship is superb. I would recommend this knife to anyone. However, don't expect to put it in your pocket. I wear mine in a sheath on my belt.

One of my grandsons asked for a pocket knife for Christmas. I wanted him to have a quality knife made in America. I could think of none better than a Buck. The three blade knife is a classic and he was thrilled when he opened the package. A great pocket knife at a great price.
