Breezy read,

This review is from: Buck (Cowboys) (Mass Market Paperback)
A good story but somehow lacking emotion--which is odd considering there were some quite emotional scenes. It's hard to explain. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I tore through the book, trying to finish it more quickly than it deserved. One particular scene did bring tears to my eyes and the end was beautiful, but I still feel almost as if I didn't actually read it. The heroine, Hannah, was someone I could relate to and for once, her personality seemed consistent. Buck was someone fighting the typical results of a lifetime of physical abuse and from what I noticed, Greenwood did his research rather well on that score. Overall, it was worth the read.
This story contains graphic love scenes.

A great read!,

Mr. Greenwood has once again written a book with characters so real I feel as if they're part of my family. His characterization is tops in the romance genre, (which means it's tops anywhere.) The tenderness, love, adventure, and dignity of his characters lasts - Jake has its own place on my Keeper Shelf.

Greenwood's most emotionally satisfying novel!,

As an avid book reader, I find few surprises in plots. After reading Greenwood's "Seven brides" series about the very sexy Maxwell brothers, I expected more of the same with the ophans of the "Cowboys". What I didn't expect was the realistic problems of a group of men bound not by blood, but by a love that none feels worthy of nor can quite believe. A love of a "family" that is perhaps stronger because it is not owed but given. I give it 5 stars because I cried. The good cry, the kind that makes you smile and laugh. And remember...

Hungry for more in the series.,

To get the full benefit of Buck's story, you should read "Jake" first. This is a story that holds your attention all the way to the end, which comes too soon. Buck Hogan and his "brother" Zeke, team up to take over the ranch of the man who beat him as a child. But, they first have to reclaim the stock that has been stolen and pay off the mortgage at the bank. Although the old man is dead, he must deal with the mother and daughter. His search for his sister Melissa adds to the storyline. Zeke, while not the main character, is a most unusual person and I hope to be the next subject of his own book. Buck and Hannah have lot to overcome but while Buck can help her learn the rudiments of ranching, Hannah can help Buck learn about love. There is sex in the story, but enough to be tantalizing with out being nauseous. Jake and Isobelle, Buck's adoptive parents, make an appearance, also. Kind of a quite ending, not as good as the twist that was incorporated in Ward, but it leaves the reader satisfied but hungry for the next in the series.

Buck,

I have read the Seven Brides series and just finished the 3rd in the Cowboy series, Buck. I thought Buck and Hannah's story was riveting. In fact, I read the last 100 pages or so without putting the book down! Ms. Greenwood has a way of making the characters so real, with real feelings and emotions, such as Buck's struggle with feeling the Maxwells were not his "family" because they weren't blood, and his longing to find his "real" family. All 10 books I have read by this author have been thoroughly enjoying and I am ready to start the next one. I have enjoyed all 3 Cowboy books I have read and even though Jake and Buck were fabulous, I think Ward has been the best so far.

The intro to the cowboys,
By A Customer
This review is from: Buck (The Cowboys) (Paperback)
I read Buck before Jake. Even then, Buck managed to capture my interest, and I'm still addicted to the cowboys' series. However, I felt that Buck's character could have been explored a bit more. I'm more interested in waiting for Matt. Now, I hope Ms Greenwood would explore Matt's character with intense depth-a sexually abused boy by his own uncle...I can hardly wait.

Really like this series, but this one was not up to "JAKE",

This review is from: Buck (The Cowboys) (Paperback)
I've read all Greenwood's Seven Brides books as they came out and waited for this series, "The Cowboys", to appear. I live in Texas and do NOT find stories including dirt and heat appealling. 102 degrees is never romantic if you have lived through it a few times. Yet, Greenwood overcame my adversion and JAKE was great. . . compelling people and enough about the boys to make me really want to know how they will grow up and find their lifemates (the purpose of romance novels, you know). And that is the best part of BUCK. There is alot of character development for many of the boys. However, Buck's story was no page turner and his lady was just too ordinary. Still, a good read and I'm waiting for the next one...

Poorly written.,

I was very disappointed with this story. I thought Buck was a bore pouty boy, not a man and I thought Hannah rather stiff. I thought there was little to the story even outside of Buck and Hannah. I didn't even finish reading the book.

From Jake to Chet..a definite letdown,
By A Customer
This review is from: Buck (The Cowboys) (Paperback)
Chet is nowhere near Jake's standard. In Jake, I was led to believe that the oncoming books in the series would be just as good, if not, even better. Chet wasn't a page turner...I felt that Ms Greenwood could have exploited Melody's anger towards Chet's stubborn refusal to accept her...or further elaborated on the estrangement that existed between Chet and his brother, Luke. This could have lend the story with a bit more depth than just the superficial issues that were focused upon in Chet.Ms Greenwood seems to have lost her touch after Jake. By far, Jake is still the greatest amongst the series. The characters seemed to have fallen in love too easily. There is no challenge, no suspense, no excitement. The only highlight of the entire book was when Melody joined in with Chety's scheme to frighten of her enemy. I would rather wait for Luke. |
