4.0 out of 5 stars Straight ahead jazz meets brass and creates Music!, May 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Buck Jump (Audio CD)
After a disspointing release I was skeptical about picking up Buck Jump. I heard cuts from this release during Jazz Fest and decided it would be well worth it. I especially enjoyed the "Pet De Kat" song because I met this wild group during my Jazz Fest visit this year. I was very happy to see the energy back in The Dozen! Another great effort by the leading brass band of New Orleans setting yet another new brass standard!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great brass funk, August 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Buck Jump (Audio CD)
This is the first I've heard of the Dirty Dozen (I'll go back for some of the old DDBB discs), and I love it. Old-school N'awlins brass funk, fattened up nicely with John Medeski's organ sound. The smoothness of the tuba, the wonderfully nasty T-bone solos, good arrangements and some great hooks that sound like tunes you've known forever combine to make this one really enjoyable disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Album HITS!, January 23, 2002

I know this band has done other albums before this. No doubt John Medeski on the organ and in the production booth helped these fellas out. This album will get your head noddin and is good for a road trip. I've seen them live in Burlington at Higher Ground and they were fabulous. I would recommend this to anybody who likes to groove. Also, the live album they did with Widespread Panic is no slouch.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for the fun of it all., March 17, 2007
This review is from: Buck Jump (Audio CD)
this is incredible music. lively, fresh, with energy flying off everywhere. a wide variety of styles are explored on this disc, from new orleans party music, to more traditional jazz, to south american sounding excursions, to a plethora of funk beats. music doesn't get much more fun than this stuff. soul-lifting genius. buy it and have a party inside your brain.

This review is from: Buck Jump (Audio CD)
TUBAS AND ORGANS AND DRUMS...OH MY! THIS IS JUST A FUN ALBUM AND A DIFFERENT LISTENING EXPERIENCE THAN ANYTHING ELSE YOU WILL EVER, EVER, EVER HEAR ON RADIO. IT'S NOT P-FUNK FUNKY, BUT DEFINITELY THE TYPE OF FUNK YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM LIKE A MATURED, DEEP SOUTHERN, HALFTIME MARCHING BAND...WHICH IS ALWAYS THE BEST PART OF A FOOTBALL GAME, ANYWAY. GET THIS AND EXPAND YOUR LISTENING RESPONSIBILITIES...PLUS IT'S JUST GOOD.

5.0 out of 5 stars These cats can rock....knahmsayin?!!, December 29, 2004
This review is from: Buck Jump (Audio CD)
As 2 say, this album is a blend of jazz, funk, R&B, blues of course, and some hip-hop to deepen the rhythm a lil' bit more.

Like to say they definitely blow their chops off, knahmean (know I'm mean). This is a excellent must-have and check out Impromp2, Urban Knights, Pharez Whitted, Grover Washington, Jr., Mike Phillips, Jeff Bradshaw, Alicia Keys, Joye B Moore, Rod McGaha, Lisa McClendon, Miles Davis, plus many more.

These guys can kick. Listening to this made me realize that this band had a huge influence on Galactic. Includes two covers, Run Joe by Louis Jordan and Inner City Blues by Marvin Gaye.
