3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work out of the box
I purchased this for my wife since it was supposed to be safely locked with the blade either in or out, but easily opened with 1 hand. Out of the box the lock button was not only very hard to move but it would not slide back when the blade was fully extended or closed. After 4 or 5 drops of a good oil and about 30 minutes of moving the button back and forth it finally...

5.0 out of 5 stars nice, May 23, 2009

First off let me say that I'm a survivalist, and a student of forestry/conservation. I recently lost my good pocket knife on an outing and was forced to swallow my pride and find a new one. After reading about, looking at, and handling many knives, it appeared that my choices, in order to get a knife that would meet my standards and be able to do tasks I needed it for, were to either buy an expensive knife, or to take a knife and modify it. I hadnt considered this knife because it had zero reviews and I was unable to get my hands on on. I took a chance and picked it up and have not been let down. The pictures on bucks main webpage gives you the feel that it will be a bit bigger, but its a good size. the blade has a good width, its solid and will stand up to use and abuse of actual cutting tasks. The lock system is nice and secure. One of the deal breakers of many other knives I looked at was that many of them were assisted open and had various forms of lock that had to be engaged so the thing wouldnt open in your pocket. I had a friend that had actually managed to both unlock and trip the assisted open on one of his kershaws that lead to stitches in a nearly sensitive area..

The only draw back I have found is that continual repetitive use in a short time period can lead to soreness in the digit used to press down the lock release.

P.s. Per buck quality the knife comes SHARP out of the box, and the serrations are far sharper than they appear to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT KNIFE!, May 14, 2009

This is a Buck knife and despite being made in China the quality is excellent with tight fittings and a sharp sturdy blade. It looks great, feels good (with medium sized hands) and grippy. The lifetime guarantee doesn't hurt either. Worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really nice knife for the price, December 11, 2009

I purchased 2 of these, one for a gift and one for myself. The overall quality of the knife seems to be very good. It is stamped made in China, but appears to be made to Buck quality standards. With a little practice, you can open the blade very quickly. The "rubber" handle is semi-tacky so it really grips will in your hand without being too sticky to attract lint in your pocket. It has a metal loop on the end of the knife that appears to be a bottle opener, so +1 on functionality. The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because I am not sure how durable the rotating blade mechanism is. When the blade is open, you can push on the blade, side to side, and see a little bit of give in the rotation mechanism. In previous pocket knives I've owned, when the blade was locked open, there was very little give. For cutting purposes, this knife should last a lifetime, but I wouldn't use it to pry anything open (not that you should with any knife, but this is a "tool"). All in, for the price I paid, I am very satisfied.

This is a cool pocket knife, light weight and colorful so it stands out alittle if dropped or misplaced. Can easely be added to a quick release ring or clipped on to a pocket. Have had mine for 6 mo. or so and liking it alot.

Excellent knife. It was a replacement for a cheap knife that the blade locking wore out. I like the non-slip handle and it is extremely easy to open with one hand. Very sharp out of the box.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great knife. Great innovation., December 29, 2011

Using this as my EDC from now on for sure.

I've had my share of EDCs through the years, but this one seems to integrate all the things I want in one. A good pocket sized blade length that doesn't intrude in size closed size. Pocket clip allows for the knife to sit low in the pocket. The texturized/semi rubber grip doesn't get caught when trying to pull the knife out your pocket because the clip rests on smooth plastic. The grip itself is good too. Not too rubbery, not smooth, a great combo. I'm assuming it has good shock resistance for drops as well since it does line the handle of the kife, leaving only the part that has the blade finger rotation exposed as a hard plastic, but definitely not cheapo plastic as it hasn't scratched, chipped, or dented in any way. The handle/body of the knife isn't just all plastic as you can see metal components providing skeletal strength to the whole knife. Feels strong and rigid. No play or squeezing in when holding the knife with the blade out.

The blade release trigger is smooth right out the box as well as the blade rotation. So smooth that if you just hold down the trigger and in a flick of the wrist the blade comes out and locks in place ready for action. There is no blade "Play" when extended out. No side to side, or up and down wobble, very sturdy in place.

The blade comes razor sharp out of the box. Buck's proprietary metal heating and sharpening is superb. The serrations aren't shallow like some other pocket kives I've had. These are good a good depth and and spacing. Good enough to actually help in some saw action. The blade sits pretty even when closed. Doesn't scrape on the inside of the handle like some others I've had.

The end of the knife where the caribiner loop/bottle opener loop is is stiff. You can see that it is locked in place to the metal skeleton that is inside the hard plastic coating. With the blade closed, I can foresee using either end as a blunt insturment. Maybe not for hammering, but maybe for hand to hand combat if you needed to use it that way for some reason. Especially the finger grooves for blade rotation as they do stick out some.

I would highly suggest this knife as an EDC. Only gripe I could give is the release trigger maybe. Since it too is plastic and has not coating, I noticed that if my hands area sweaty, my thumb slips a little on it. Other than that it's all good.

Easy to flip open even though my right thumb is broken.

Fairly light weight so it doesn't bother me to carry it around. I live in Chicago and I walk home a lot at night. I needed a knife that wouldn't bother me when I was carrying it around.

The clip hasn't gotten messed up after being attached to my pocket for the last week.

The knife is extremely sturdy and it doesn't feel loose in anyway.

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work out of the box, January 26, 2011

I purchased this for my wife since it was supposed to be safely locked with the blade either in or out, but easily opened with 1 hand. Out of the box the lock button was not only very hard to move but it would not slide back when the blade was fully extended or closed. After 4 or 5 drops of a good oil and about 30 minutes of moving the button back and forth it finally smoothed out and seems fine.

I am also somewhat disappointed with the sturdy-ness of the knife. When the blade is extended and locked, it wiggles side-to-side more than I expected. Since it is for my wife and will see limited use, it may last a long time anyway. I use my knives nearly every day and if it were for me I would probably return it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet knife, January 27, 2012
This review is from: Redpoint (Misc.)
I am 10 years old and I bought this knife with my own money because I knew that it had lasted my friend 2 years and still looked new. It has a grip and a bottle opener. It locks open and closed and is very easy to find if your drop it in the dirt because of its bright color. My parents are comfortable with me having this because it is one of the safer knives by Buck.
