4.0 out of 5 stars My best choice for a fine filet knife, May 23, 2010

This review is from: Buck 225 Silver Creek Large Fixed Blade Filet Knife (Blue/Stainless) (Sports)
I had almost given up looking for a quality filet knife. I finally bought this filet knife on Amazon after I saw it at a finer knife store in my area, and was able to comparison shop by actually holding it and seeing all its qualities. It's made by Buck Knives, long time makers of safe, reliable, and durable hunting, fishing and sport knives. It is large sized (almost 10 inch blade), yet weighs only 5+ oz. I like it's rubberized anti-slip grip and stainless steel finger guard for assured safety. This is important when handling slimy fish. It is made with a titanium coated steel blade, but I get the feeling that the blade, though flexible, may snap if bent. This is why I gave it only a 4 star. It comes with a nice plastic sheath with belt clip and best of all an unconditional lifetime warranty. I didn't see any filet knife superior than this for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buck 225 Silver Creek Large Filet Knife, August 16, 2011

I have only been using this knife on my charter boat for a couple weeks so it's still early and I will update this review if need be in the future.

I like the lengthy blade for the salt water fish that I clean. I very much like the amount of flex this blade has. I'm not so keen on that even Buck is making knives in China these days. Discovering that was a little deflating.

I have seen some tiny rust spots on the ground edge so I have been careful to rinse the knife with fresh water and dry it after each use.

The knife is long and sharp enough to cut through 40 inch pike. It also worked well on the smaller fish, crappies, etc. Seems to hold a nice edge. It came with a nice plastic sheath. Overall a pretty good deal.

I purchased this knife for the sole purpose of cleaning/fileting salmon. This knife has the length and flexability to get the job done correctly. I'm extremely pleased with the product and recently ordered another one.

What else would you expect from a buck. I like to use this to take the skins off of Big mutton snapper and grouper after I use a large breaking knife to cut the slabs off the fish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding knife!, February 15, 2011

I knew the Buck knife company made quality products at affordable prices and this filet knife is no exception. It holds an edge for a good amount of time and use before it needs resharpening. It is more flexible than the 223 (which I also own)which allows for more precise control for close-to-the-backbone fileting.
