This short-lived L.A. band came about after the popular cuddle core band Cub broke up. Singer Lisa Marr and drummer Lisa G moved from Vancouver to L.A. and formed Buck with guitarist Pepper Berry. The main feature of both Cub and Buck is Lisa Marr's slightly rough, but also intensely sweet voice, which is almost irresistible. For anyone who has fallen for Kim Shattuck of the Muffs sugary-sounding snarl, Lisa Marr's voice is not quite as harsh, but they could easily be mistaken for one another. Marr's voice sounds fantastic on highlights like the lovely pop tune "My Fascination" and the Ramones-like rumble of "(She's In) Another World." There's also a pissed-off, antiwork tune, "American Express," that one might not expect from these former cuddle core gals.
