2.0 out of 5 stars good idea
This tool belt is a good idea and feels great...here's the lowdown. In the field the loops on the back of the pouches for the horizontal belt are weak. They broke within two weeks. Bucket Boss makes great products and I hope that they would upgrade this unit as soon as possible. I wish that I would have bought mine here, alas I did not and am now stuck with it.

After 20 years in the building trades, I have finally found a tool belt that doesn't weigh me down like a bunch of lead weights. With the padded suspenders carrying almost all the load, this belt hangs comfortably off my shoulders instead of my waist. I have added suspenders to other tool belts before, but this combination brings the concept to its near perfect conclusion. The tool bags are large and hold lots of nails or screws and have lots of pockets for carrying smaller tools. The bags are reversible for left or right handers. All in all this tool belt is a must for week-end warriors or hard core carpenters!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very comfortable with more pockets than I can use, November 16, 2004
This review is from: Bucket Boss 55039 Builders Rig Air-Lift (Tools & Home Improvement)
I ordered this because I kept putting suspenders on my belts but since they were attached to the belt and not the bag the bags had a tendency to sag. Double belt system. Fat padded belt with the narrow bag holding belt. I tried to connect my suspenders to the bags but they wouldn't hold. Also my old bags where leather and heavy. When it rains they got really heavy and it took a while to dry.

I was hesitent to order these because I couldn't tell how many pockets it had but according to the box it has 29. It seems like more than that to me. It has so many pockets at first I thought it might have to many. Since I'm not using most of them they just stay closed and it isn't an issue.

Suspenders; I don't think I've worn a more comfortable set of suspenders. The picture doesn't show it but it has a chest strap that keep the suspenders in place. It took me a couple of days to get them broke in and then get the suspenders ajusted just the way I like but I'm very happy with them now. We'll just have to wait and see how I like them come summer when I'm getting them sweaty.

Since I replaced my leather ones I hardly notice the weight of these. The only problem I've encountered so far is the bags don't seem to stay in one place. Not a big deal to me. I will probably connect them to the belt with a pin of some sort if it becomes to much of an issue. Also the suspenders are attached directly to the bags so the bags are always at the same height and all the weight is supported on the suspenders rather than my hips. Since I'm very skinny I used to have to sinch my belt up so tight it hurt my hips after a long day.

I don't know about the durability but for the amount of money I spent so far it has been some of the best money I've spent on construction. My coworkers are all waiting to see how they hold up but most are planning on getting these if they need new bags. I would have paid this much for the suspenders alone.

Update. Three months later. These haven't held up as I hoped they would. The belt was so long that I had to run it through the loop of the bag and it was always coming out and it was wearing a hole in the bag. I put some duct tape on the bag and cut off the excess belt and the problem has stopped. All the high use pockets are showing clear wear. If I put to much weight on one side the bags sag to that side. Minor inconvience. My biggest complaint has to be the hammer holder. I tried to move it up but then it pulls the suspenders down, if I leave it down, the hammer bangs the back of my leg. Shorter hammer will take care of that. I never felt the need to pin the bags in place and I'm about to order two more sets of these bags, a back up for me, and one for one of my coworkers. All of the plastic buckles still work right, and I have a non flip phone and there is a pocket way in back that it fits in perfect. To bad I can't hear it very well back there. I added a cell phone holder to the shoulder strap and I can now hear it ring and it doesn't get in the way.

Bottom line. Best all around utility I've found in bags. Like to see a tape measure holder, and a different color would be nice. I can handle the wear for the price I paid.

3.0 out of 5 stars almost right, June 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bucket Boss 55039 Builders Rig Air-Lift (Tools & Home Improvement)
Let me first start off with that first I am a professional builder, and have at times a need to carry a full assortment of hand tools on the job where a tool bag or cart simply will not do. The option of hauling two full tool bags on my waist all day long becomes a bit uncomfortable. I saw an item like this in the store for $20.00 more that I tried on and like it. I got this one but did not like it because it had too many straps which made it hard to get on and off. I also thought that the number and placement of the straps made it easier to get snagged on things. The one that I saw in the store had a "Y" strap where this one has and "X" strap to support the tools, the "Y" strap was a little less padded which made it less bulky and the straps where little more sturdy which made them keep their shape beter and easier to get on and off quickly. I liked the one in the store better also because the tool bags hanged better and the clips that hold them where smaller in size but strong and less in the way. Even though it cost more in the store it was a better buy for me considering these small but important features to me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Falling apart, October 14, 2007

I made my old tool belt and it lasted over 20 years and I LIKED IT. I working in the trades as a framer and concrete contractor and I know how important a tool belt is: needs to accomedate your tools snugly, conveniently and accessable as well as comfortable. I carry on average over #30 of tools continually on roofs, through studs, over hill and dale.
This tool belt just dosen't fit the bill. Started falling apart right away and is designed for a #300 8 foot tall person. Way to much web length and the buckles and clips break as they are plastic and pot metal. The pockets are sewn to a tapper so the bottoms of all compartments fill up with dirt, saw dust and debrie. Tool compartments are to deep for tools and sewn flat so its hard to impossible to get tools out. You better order rivets with this as you will be rivetting everything back together and also securing bags and hammer holder in place as they slid around to easily.
Overall, I do not see how they build these for the price. But if you are a tradesman, these will drive you nuts. Expect to do a lot of improvising and repurchase within a year as they just do not cut it...at least for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars good but not great, February 28, 2004

I have been in the trades for over 40 years, and used many tool belts. This belt is more for Western framers than Eastern, the whole debate, worm drive vs, sidewinder saws etc. If you are not used to a rear hammer holder, you will find it hard to get used to. The bags hang on your side, and not the front. These are the things I like because it makes it easy to bend over and not get pinched in the gut, by quick squares, tapes, racks of 16 sinkers, etc. This is a great belt to see if you like the side bag system, shoulder harness, rear hammer, only $40. Good bags cost $100 to $200 for any type, so not much lost is you don't like. The reason for the 3 stars, the hammer holder broke the first week, and the x brace across the back moves during the day which pulls the bags around to the rear. I reposition everthing at lunch and start again, it's a pain.

I've had this belt for not to long, and already have had to replace the belt because all the plastic buckles (of which there are a quite a few) have broken. Now I have a halfway serviceable belt I have to tie on every day.

4.0 out of 5 stars a toolbox on suspenders, January 20, 2004

I've been in the construction field for four years, and have not found a more comfortable belt yet. I'm rather thin, and in the winter I tend to wear many layers. Despite the many layers, it fits perfectly no matter what I am wearing. Unlike many other toolbelts, this one can hold all of the different types of tools that a carpenter needs. In the past, I have used the normal setup with all the individual pouches and just threw on a pair of suspenders to hold them up. After a long hard day of work, my shoulders are tired from the weight. Also, you know as well as I do, that when you try to fit into tight spaces, you could catch one of those clips, and they could wind shooting off and hitting you in the face. This does not happen with the air lift system whereever you go, the belt just follows. Overall, if you're out there all day, and are looking for a comfortable belt that doesn't strain your shoulders, the air lift system is definitely for you

5.0 out of 5 stars economical and very comfortable, March 20, 2006
This review is from: Bucket Boss 55039 Builders Rig Air-Lift (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have worn several tool belt sets in my trade as a sheet metal worker. This is the most versatile and comfortable in all of my experience. In the past I have had to customize the pouches by adding extra pockets so my many small tools would be easy to find. Totally unnecessary, the Builders Rig has so many pockets and slots that I have yet to use them all. Though, it took a while to get used to my hammer being in the back, it works well for me now. It is the most comfortable of all I have ever worn.

1.0 out of 5 stars Builders Rig Bust, November 10, 2005
This review is from: Bucket Boss 55039 Builders Rig Air-Lift (Tools & Home Improvement)
I am thoroughly dissapointed in this item!! It was extremely uncomfortable, the suspenders rubbed my neck all day. The pouches would not stay where I wanted them and liked them for comfortable wear. I have worn combinations of belt and suspenders before with success but never ones desgined to work together. These are a huge dissapointment, and I am glad I only lost $40.00 on the purchase!
