I really hate this toolbelt. I like a lot of Bucket Bros. other products (especially the bucket organizers), but this belt was a real disappointment.

The tape holder doesn't fit a 25' tape very well (too shallow and wide), and its too close to the belt for fasteners - they want to pour out when you bend over. The pockets are largely unstructured, so your tools just kind of float around inside, banging into each other and making it hard to fish the right tool out. The outer pockets are too small to hold normal tools securely. Note in the picuture that they've got something like two or three pencils in them (!).

The worst thing about this setup, though, is that the bags have oversized loops that sit over a fairly narrow belt (albiet with some sort of stiffener in it so it buckles less than it might otherwise). The net result is that when you bend forward, the bags come sliding forward, and when you straighten back up, you have to shift 'em back.

On top of that, the stiff part of the belt only extends about 2/3 of its length, so tools like your tape holder and drill holster end up hanging from a narrow web belt, and drooping down.

I finally had to strap on a pair of suspenders to keep the whole rig from sliding apart everytime I unbuckled the belt.

I have a CLC electricians bag with a velcro on the loops to keep the bags in place, and a Skillers system that uses loops and velcro straps - both systems do a far better job of keeping the bag together (though they each have their problems, as well).

On the positive side, the materials the Builder's rig is made up from are durable, and the price is quite reasonable compared to, say, an Occidental Leather setup. If you're a homeowner carrying a light load, or invest in a pair of suspenders, you can make it work OK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Working Tool Belt, January 20, 2001
By
Scott Miller (Ephrata, PA United States) - See all my reviews
I have been a carpenter for 15 years and wear a tool belt all day, everyday. I purchased this belt to replace an inferior one from a different manufacturer that I had worn for less than a month. This belt is the best, most comfortable belt I have ever owned. For starters, the padded belt makes it feel as if I'm not wearing one.I can wear it all day and not be bothered by weight. The spine in the belt works well at preventing it from compressing. The tool pockets are nice and roomy and I especially like the smaller compartments inside. It makes it easy to carry a lot of smaller hand tools and separate them so they are easy to find when needed. No digging to the bottom of a large pouch to find a utility knife or pliers when needed. My only problem with the belt is the tape measure pouch. It is too big and doesn't secure a tape measure. My tape would fall out almost everytime I bent over. Not a good situation when you're on a roof. I solved the problem by removing the pouch and replacing in with a standard tape holster. All in all I love this belt and would recommend it for everyone from pro to weekend warrior. I'm sure I'll buy another one when this one wears out a long time from now.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is a required item., August 23, 2000
I'm a "weekend warrior" - I spent every weekend and vacation days building a big addition on my house: 450 ft^2 basement, 450 ft^2 family room on top (with 10 ft ceilings). I'm doing it all myself: framing, clapboard siding, electrical work, etc.

I started the project with out this belt, and soon acquired it.

It's absolutely required. The fabric is heavy duty, the pockets are spacious and numerous (I've never wanted to carry as many items up and down a ladder as the belt provides pockets for). The belt is constructed like a good hip belt from a serious backpack. I can't think of a single improvement I'd make.

1.0 out of 5 stars Builders rig is awkward, March 6, 2002
By
Dean F. Coffin II (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
I am a carpenter, and have been for sixteen years. I have tried many different bag setups over the years, from front pouches, which I find convienient but very hot on my legs and dificult to walk with while wearing, to my favorite, two seperate bags sitting on the outside of my hips. The Builders rig bags are way too short, so they sit up at an awkward hight and the tool pouches on the inside of the big pouches get jambed up with fasteners. The entire set up is very awkward. Not what you want to deal with at work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Belt, great value., January 29, 2001

I think this is a great belt for the money. You could do a lot worse and spend a lot more money for a tool belt. It's tough and funtional. Of course the feel of leather is nice, but it's also much heavier! My tools weigh enough as it is, and I don't need anything else pulling down my pants.

This product is nice because of its adaptability. You only need to lug around what you need and not a bunch of empty flapping pockets. It is also nice to be able to vary the position of the pouches and hammer. The belt is nice and comfortable, with good but not exessive padding and the material is practically indestructable and wearproof. It doesnt get easily soaked with water or sweat either, which is nice. Of course, when brand new the belt is a bit stiff, but it wears in quickly and hangs very comfortably.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Better Then They Tell You!, December 28, 2001
By A Customer
I have been looking for the "perfect" belt forever - this is it! Others have unnecessary multiple(hammer)loops made out of leather or metal, or the pocket material is too stiff, or they are too thin. What a great surprise you get with this belt! The two large pouches are different! One has an inside angled pocket for your small tri-square, the other has slotted pockets for tools. The variety is awesome!!! The only problem I found, is that the web belt buckles were on backwards, with the excess showing on the outside, where they could get caught, snagged, etc. I simply took a needle and thread, opened the belt, reversed it and sewed it up again. Took five minutes and was well worth it. GREAT BELT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong, Lightweight, and Agile for the money!, September 3, 2006
I am a post frame or pole barn builder. The job requires you to be half monkey. There is no 16" or 24" OC. Try trusses at 8-10 feet OC, purlins and girts 2-3 feet OC. My point is I have put this belt/pouches in some of the most awkward positions and it's only spilled once from jumping down.

I won't brag about how many years or pouches I have had. Leather pouches are heavier, droopy/limp, and hot in the summer, stiff in the winter. We work in the drizzle and these pouches dry faster without mold, mildew, or wrecking the material. The pouches stay open all year without the help of tools and fasteners.

This is a great pouch system for the money for any framing. Homes or barns. I bought the Bucket Boss regular suspenders and really don't feel much load on my hips or waist. Never tore or ripped anything yet.

The only con for my job is we use a lot of different fasteners. 16d ringers, 10d smooth, teco, 4d trim, log screws, and 2" - 1 1/2" self tapping sheet metal screws. You can't carry all these at the same time. Not enough pouches. Some of our buildings require you to have all at the same time.

Great pouches for framing at a rock bottom price!

4.0 out of 5 stars This product is very well designed, but plastic buckle is lacking, July 19, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a very well designed tool belt. You can move the modules around to fit our own needs. The nylon parts are nicely made, but the plastic clip is not durable. After about three weekend of use, one of the piece already broke off. I replaced it with a metal belt buckle.
