Book Description

September 25, 2000
Buckminster Fuller, futurist, philosopher is best known as the inventor of the Geodesic Dome. He is one of the most creative contributors to innovative thought and initiative of the twentieth century incomparable designer, engineer, teacher, poet, artist, sailor, speaker, writer and cosmographer among other things - Fuller used his life to demonstrate what one individual could accomplish using techniques such as integrity, imagination, initiative and intention.

Once he realized that the survival and success of humankind was dependent on global cooperation and shifting our focus from weaponry to what he called "livingry," Fuller devoted his life to sharing that vision and showing us how viable it is. He uncovered Nature's underlying principles and lived by them while creating artifacts (i.e. inventions) which help us to better understand and utilize those principles.

Lloyd Steven Sieden discovered and began working with Fuller's wisdom in the late 1970's. Since that time he has successfully incorporated many of Fuller's discoveries into his own life experiment. In these tapes, Sieden shares the unique story of Fuller's life as well as how Fuller's insights can be of enormous benefit to each of us as individuals and as a species.

From the Publisher

In 1927, Buckminster Fuller embarked on an intentional personal quest. Using himself as a Guinea Pig, he conducted a fifty-six year experiment to discover and document what one individual could achieve that could not be accomplished by any organization, corporation or nation regardless of how large or powerful. The story of Fuller’s life is an extraordinary example of what one individual with clear intention and imagination can do by allowing his heart and passion to guide his every initiative.

In speaking and writing, Fuller used his personal experiences as examples to explain how each of us can use our life to make a difference. In this set of three one-hour audio cassettes, Lloyd Steven Sieden recounts the highlights of Fuller’s youth and brilliant career as a comprehensive, anticipatory design scientist as well as an average human who sought to be of service to his fellow crewmembers aboard the planet he named Spaceship Earth. Skillfully assisted by host Laura Lee, Sieden delves into the rich depths of Fuller’s operating strategy and translates his complex ideas into easily understandable concepts that can be of use to us in facing the personal and global challenges of today’s accelerating and fragile world.

The saga of Fuller’s life and achievements stands as a testament to the power of the individual working in cooperation with other people. Mr. Sieden tells that story brilliantly in his five hundred plus page book “Buckminster Fuller’s Universe.” Space constraints, however, forced even that volume to omit much of Fuller’s wisdom, global perspective and discoveries. Within these tapes, Sieden explores more of the seemingly boundless stories of Fuller’s life while relating them to the one thing Fuller constantly cautioned people to rely on more than anything else - our own personal experience. Lloyd Steven Sieden has been studying and translating the wisdom and life of Buckminster Fuller since the late seventies. After coming to understand and appreciate Fuller’s guiding principles, Sieden has adapted many of them to his own life in an experiment similar to Fuller’s, but with far less documentation or complexity. This set of recordings is especially relevant and beneficial because while recounting the key aspects of Fuller’s life and philosophy Sieden generously shares what he has learned from twenty years of applying Fuller’s insights to his own life.

This review is from: Buckminster Fuller : An Audio Biography (Audio Cassette)
Listening to "Buckminster Fuller An Audio Biography" is like sitting at a coffee shop with Lloyd Sieden as he tells engaging stories of the life of his friend Buckminster Fuller. Stories range from Bucky's acheivements to his struggles to continue his "life as an experiement". The human side of Bucky is protrayed and I felt a connection with his unique spirit. I especially enjoyed the story of how Bucky's uncles raised money to pay for his college. With money in hand Bucky's interest in a good time diverted him from making it to college.
