I have a number of Buckwheat albums, and have seen him live at the NJ Crawfish Festival several times. This album captures alot of the material he often plays live. I also like the fact that it has traditional Zydeco blues selections, cover songs from Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, and newer upbeat originals. This is my favorite Buckwheat album. I wish it had "Hard to Stop" from the Trouble album, but that is the only thing lacking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warning: You Might Dance Your Knees Off, November 29, 2005

Seriously, if this disc doesn't get you up off your butt, you might want to check for a pulse. I used to do a lot of business in the south and always was willing to go out of my way to see Buckwheat Zydeco, Clifton Chenier and other Cajun and Zydeco bands. The music is so full of life and energy and when you're on the road, you tend to sit around and work too much. Dancing in a hot sweaty New Orleans bar is the right kind of cure for jet lag, I'll tell you that!

This disc is an excellent compilation of Stanley Dural's (aka Buckwheat Zydeco) work. The opening track "Zydeco Boogaloo" gets the party started off right and pretty soon my toe is tapping and the beat has before long worked its way up to my spine. After that, it's all she wrote and I'll be hoppin' around like a fool for the next hour. The disc is just about evenly split between Buckwheat originals, traditional tunes arranged by Buckwheat and covers of more contemporary tunes. The mix works to excellent effect.

Standout tunes include: "Zydeco Boogaloo", "Lache Pas La Patate", "Ma 'Tit Fille", "Hot Tamale Baby", "Make A Change", "What You Gonna Do", "Midnight Special" and "Trouble". This is not to say that the remaining tracks aren't good. I love to listen to the whole disc. Eric Clapton plays along on "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad", a tune he co-wrote with Bobby Whitlock and this version is really good, as is the cover of the Rolling Stone's "Beast Of Burden". Even the 8 minute version of "Hey Joe" works well. This is great stuff lovingly compiled. Buy this and before long, you'll be picking up the individual albums these tunes were culled from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and fun!, September 19, 1999

I grew up in New Orleans and live now in SW Florida with my 2 children. I am interested in exposing them to some of the wonderful cajun songs that I grew up hearing, even if they are NOT in New Orleans. This was a great CD to play as background music at my daughter's birthday party as well as to dance along with the catchy tunes!!
