4.0 out of 5 stars Very good sleep mask, but could use a couple improvements
This sleep mask is very comfortable and would be perfect for travel, when you're sleeping in an upright position. However, there are a couple things that make this less than perfect:

1. The velcro attached to the straps is thick. This creates a bump (1/8" or so) on the back of your head that makes sleeping on your back unlikely. There really isn't a good...

There really isn't a good position in which to place the strap to make this more comfortable. However, sleeping on your side is perfectly comfortable.

2. On my face, light leaks in on either side of the nostrils. If only there was an extra bit of fabric to gently close off that gap without putting pressure on the nostrils, this mask would be greatly improved.

Both of the above cons are minimized if you are using these on a train or plane, which is probably the intended use of this mask anyway. I just wanted to point them out in case you intend to use them in bed.

I got this in "mums" and black (for me and my husband). My husband has taken a liking to it and I see him use it pretty much every night. I use it occasionally... the mums print is so cute!!! But I like it primarily for the unique print and SOMEWHAT ergonomic, contoured shape. The shape looked great in photo, but it doesn't lay flat on the sides of my nose... the inverted "V" shape part is a tad too wide/big for me. Perhaps if you had a bigger nose or the entire nose area were sticking out more, this would fit perfectly. I almost wish that they just cut a slit for the nose instead of a "V", so the flaps will lay over the sides of the nose.. I would imagine that will fit more people's facial shape and will keep lights out more effectively. I wonder if I should've tried the "Lights out" one also available on Amazon... but they just weren't as stylish : P

5.0 out of 5 stars bucky 40 blinks, April 6, 2009
By
I love my bucky 40 blinks eye mask. I rode to Florida from Missouri and took long naps with my face mask. It blocks out all the light and lets you zone out, nap and relax. The mask is so soft and comfortable with the bulging eye pockets, letting you blink. I would recommend this to everyone.

I have had dozens of eye masks over the years. They were either too tight, too loose, not dark enough or left dents in my face. THIS ONE IS PERFECT. VERY LIGHT and NO DENT MARKS EVEN OVERNIGHT.

In Dusseldorf once I bought a German-made eye-mask that was the last word in eye-mask technology. It was darned expensive, but after having used it for years I wish I hadn't bought three or four more.

This one, the Bucky "40 Blinks Mask" is probably the best I've seen for sale domestically. There are no plastic buckles in the back: it fastens to itself using velcro. The straps are proper thick straps, not strings. There is a puffy hollow in front of your eyes, so your eyelashes don't feel crushed: the face mask material is made out of washable foam, not leather or satin.

The best thing about this eyemask is that is hugs the bridge of your nose quite a ways down. This will take a few nights of getting used to since it creates a slight pinching feeling, but the big advantage is that very little light will be able to get in through the little crack in the nose opening, a common problem with masks that merely lie flat on your face.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahhhh, sweet darkness in the face of light(ning), October 18, 2009

After 3 nites of little or no sleep due to lightning storms (this is the downside to a house with a lot of windows out on the prairie), I got online to find a sleep mask! The reviews on this one were good so I gave it a try. I was looking for non-bulky & cupped so my long eyelashes wouldn't rub & feel all smushed. Plus it needed to be adjustable to fit my big ol' noggin (I'm a woman that wears a 7.5 size hat). FOUND IT! The test for darkness control came the nite after receiving my mask in that there was weather forecast of another lightning storm during the nite. Popped on my mask, ahhh sweet darkness! Slept like a log. I had to ask if there WAS a storm even... yes there was. Then just 2 days later, I came home from work with a migraine. Took my meds, popped on my mask, & crawled into bed. Woke up a couple hours later all refreshed. I'm sayin'... I LOVE this mask!

I have 3 of these and love them, but when one strap tore off after 4 months (but only a few uses -- it was my travel mask), Bucky refused to do anything, instead telling me to contact amazon. Normally a manufacturer stands by its products. Fortunately, amazon replaced it (yet another case of impressive amazon service) -- but this is not the way a manufacturer of high-end products should treat its customers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bucky Eye Mask, March 26, 2008

I have tried various masks over the years, and this is the best one I've ever owned. It does a great job keeping the light out, and I can barely feel it on my face... and what I do feel is very soft and comfortable. The elastic is neither too thick nor too thin, and connects in back with Velco, so it's adjustable. I often use it at home, and always bring it with me when I travel; somehow the hotel curtains NEVER close all the way.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not comfortable for me, lets in too much light, June 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Wow, am I ever disappointed in this mask. It gaps all around my nose, particularly if I lay on my side. If I am on my side, it also slides around uncomfortably if I move my head even slightly - gapping even more. If I lay on my back, it gaps less, but there is a lump formed by the velcro that makes this position uncomfortable too. I don't know what is harder -- falling asleep without the mask with way too much light in the room, or falling asleep with this darn thing on and bright slivers of light still getting in. Seems like this mask works for a lot of people, but not for me. I have a narrow nose bridge -- maybe that is the problem for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars good, but not great for side sleeper, March 20, 2010

If you sleep on your back this is good

but the strap sucks, it cuts into your ears

Any good sleep mask should have two thin straps
