5.0 out of 5 stars Takes a while to get into...
When I first got this CD I was really excited to listen to it but I did not get into it. I put it aside and moved on to something else. It was pretty mellow, it was lacking the Middle Eastern and Asian influences unlike Buddha Bar's 1 through 4. Although, I haven't listened to Buddha Bar 5 so I can't comment on that one. So I put it aside and finally I came back to it. I...

I thought I'd give it another try. I figured It wouldn't hurt. I was actually blown away by the mix. It's very mellow, lush and hypnotic. The CD's are broken down in to 2 themes. CD 1 is called Rebirth which is the more mellow one and CD 2 is called Rejoice the more upbeat disc. There are several tracks that are new variations on old classical pieces, a Gotan Project Remix of an old Sarah Vaughan track called Whatever Lola Wants which you can also find on Verve Remixed 2, an awesome remix of Telepopmusik's Breathe which fits perfect in this mix and an amazing track called Manvantara by an artist/artists called Bliss. Overal, I have to say Buddha Bar 6 is more in line with the Hotel Costes series but that's not to say it's not excellent because it is. It's amazing! It's great to chill too with, to have playing in the background with friends or put the top down in the car and just blast the stereo as you are driving through the streets.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to classy laid-back style........, April 8, 2004

I totally agree with other reviewer who said that this certainly is the better release amongst the Buddha Bar series. Seeing quite a few of 'disappointed'/negative reviews here, I'm compelled to tell you all what I personally think of Buddha Bar VI.

To me, Buddha Bar VI offers us what the series was originated before with the first release of Buddha Bar 1. Classy chill-out/ambient atmospheres with the 'slight' Eastern twists. I may have to underline 'slight Eastern twists' here cos' I believe this is what became the critical point of what the series is all about.

The last couple of Buddha Bar series has become so 'thickly' influenced by the Middle-Eastern sound hence make me think about what other reviewer said "bad nights in Iran." I can thoroughly relate to this statement. While some people may enjoy the 'heavily' Middle-Eastern/Arabian flavor, I tend to think that it is a bad idea for this great series to go down this cycle.

So, when I put this CD on my sound-system, I had anticipated another so-so/below par release. But have I been so wrong! Buddha Bar VI has brought us back to the 'originated' vision of what the series is all about. It's a classy electronica/ambient at it's fine form if not perfect.

I thoroughly enjoyed both CDs immensely and this one (Buddha Bar VI) will be stuck in my players for a long-long time. It's a very nice release indeed. Each song flows through beautifully. And this time RAVIN has brought back the long-forgotten Buddha Bar sound that I long for in the series-- a classy ambient with slight Eastern twist (as opposed to thickly saturated with Middle Eastern sound).

I just simply LOVE this one. Do yourself a favor and take a sample of this CD (if you hesitate to buy because of a couple bad reviews here... If you like the old classy sound of Buddha Bar, you definitely have to own this release. Cheers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Opinion from a Costes Hôtel lover, October 7, 2004

I am not an expert by any means on lounge/ambient music. I started with Costes - la Suite, and have acquired a taste for Costes, Thievery Corporation (including their recent compilation The Outernational Sound), Air, Zero 7 and others in this space.

That said, Buddha Bar VI was my introduction to the Series. The CD is for the most part an uninspired compilation of music. It has is good tracks, no doubt, but the general experience is very inconsistent. You will find a few good tracks surrounded by pretty average ambient music. I also noticed a bit of an abuse on some pretty average electronic sounds and effects and very little moments in which you feel that you are listening to truly creative material.

If you want to try a great compilation I absoultely recommend to start with Costes (la Suite or Vol 2. is my favorite and Hotel costes 6 is also highly recommended). The elegance of the compilation, the great moments on most of the tracks and the moments of brilliance are a far superior experience than listening to Buddha Bar VI.

If this CD were one of a few options out there, it might not be such a bad option. But compared to other available options (Costes or not) it does not hold its own very well.

I am totally blown away by the fact that this album only gets 3.5 stars. I own all the Buddha Bar CD's up to 6 and love them all, but this one is by far my favorite. I play this whenever we have a party or a few dinner guests, and without fail, people ask me for the name of this CD. It's not as middle eastern sounding as some of the others. It's more of a European groove, but the tracks are very sensual and draw you into almost a chill out state of mind. Out of all the Buddha Bar CD"s this is the set I play the most. After this, Buddha Bar II is my next favorite.

3.0 out of 5 stars Desappointing, November 1, 2004
This review is from: Buddha Bar VI (Unibox) (Audio CD)
I have the other CDs of Buddha Bar that I loved completely so when number VI was released, I jumped on it... I was pretty desappointed. There is no diversity in the music, same rythm all the time... very different from the other CDs.
Not for you if you like diverse style music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Open your mind to something different, July 28, 2004

I discovered the Buddha Bar Series while in Paris at the Buddha Bar, which was recommended to us. We bought VI in Paris and absolutely love it! We get so stuck on the same music day in and day out on any radio station you listen to that it's great to find something so completely different. This makes for great background music and yes, it is very romantic. I enjoyed VI so much that I bought BBIII and was very disappointed. So I can't say they are all good, if you want to try one make it BBVI, turn up the volume and enjoy...

Incredibly, the quality of the Buddha Bar series is holding steady, which is good given that the quality level is about as good as it gets. I have all six Buddha Bar CDs (as well as a growing collection of other "chill out" CDs). On most of the Buddha Bar CD collections, I tend to favor the CD with with the uptempo beats. On BB6, however, the slower "Rebirth" CD is stunning the way it draws you in. I played "Rebirth" on my computer one night while working and found it hypnotic. And another word to the wise: this CD is very romantic--actually it drips with passion (check out track 12)--and will complement more than dinner.

4.0 out of 5 stars My First Buddha Bar, April 9, 2004
This review is from: Buddha Bar VI (Unibox) (Audio CD)
The first cd entitled "Rebirth" was so beautiful it took my breath away. Especially track 02, "The Way You Dream" with the amazing Asha Bhosle and Michael Stipe. The first time I heard this it gave me goosebumps, I swear. Her voice is so moving it made me want to look up more of her work.

The second cd, titled "Rejoice" was a bit disappointing. To me the songs were unremarkable and dissolve into repetitive house music. Some might like this aspect, but for lovers of melody like myself it's a big yawn. Still, the first cd is definitely worth the money and I would consider getting another from the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buddha Best, November 23, 2010

I discovered Buddha-bar VI which a friend had loaded on my iPod which I use during my workouts. I was so enthralled that I kept listening to it over and over again. Did a number of searches but apparently it's not too easy to find. Anyway, I'm happy to have found it here, purchased a used copy, and am completely thrilled. Love it, love it, love it! I own Buddha-Bar I, II & III but VI appears to be the best one to date...at least for me.
