Wonderful thing,

The Budda Board is endlessly entertaining. I gave three of these for gifts to artists, two of whom are in their 80s and they are loving them. I wish I had ordered one for myself. I tried it in a store display and another before gifting and it is a wonderful, unusual, yet simple thing. You paint with water on the board and it stays there for awhile then slowly vanishes. It is perfect for those practicing brush-stroke painting or caligraphy. I recommend this for anyone needing diversion in a calm, non-technical way. If you order one, get a spare to donate to a nearby long-term care center, children's hospital or waiting room.

I bought this as a gift for a coworker and it has been a huge hit around the office. When it first came I was disappointed because it is just such a simple thing. All you do is take some water, paint the board and then watch it disappear as it dries.
Little did I know that the Buddha Board would soon be a major addiction. Whenever the workplace becomes a little too stressful I just whip out the paintbrush and paint away. What I love the most is the way it dries. You can watch as your picture morphs and changes through the subtraction of lines and shapes. It just feels so good to create a bit of art that will not last. There is no need for perfection. You just paint what you feel. Love this so much I'm buying one for myself and a few for presents for friends. Highly recommended.

The Secret For After A Busy Day-The Budddha Board!,
By
This review is from: Buddha Board Easel, Black Laptop (Toy)
The Budda Board is a great tool for relaxation, especially after a busy day. When using it I become so engrossed in it.It makes everything slip away from my mind.I find peace, harmony and joy.I am renewed with energy and calmness at the same time. I would recommend this to everyone! This was given to me by my husband for no special reason other than he may have thought I needed to have something to use as a method of relaxation other than a book or a crossword puzzle.
My only complaint is it took a long time for delivery.Far longer than we had anticipated. FedEx did keep us apprised of when we could expect it, but we were both anxious to receive it faster than we did.We did not ask for any special delivery services.

I was introduced to the Buddha Board through friends who own it and thought that it would benefit me. I have to say, it's one of the neatest things I have ever purchased. Any time I have a bad day at work, I whip out the Board and paint out my anxieties (and sometimes exactly what I am feeling) just to watch it disappear before my eyes. It is quite therapeutic. Yes, your work of art disappears but with it goes the stress of having to be perfect in your work. I have heard other reviewers saying that they use their board for calligraphy, and that would be absolutely perfect. I think I may try that.
My only complaint about this specific board is that the brush is low quality and the bristles shed all over the board. However, if you find that you have this problem you can easily purchase a new one at your local craft store (Just make sure the bristles are soft as hard bristles could easily damage this board). For those who are hesitating purchasing this item, don't. It's worth every penny of the price and I have already bought several for gifts and plan to buy several more for the holidays. It's one gift that is as functional as it is fun.

Permanent Impermanence,
This review is from: Buddha Board Easel, Black Laptop (Toy)
This Buddha Board is great. I've heard of child therapists using these to help troubled children to release their pain by drawing bad figures and watching them disappear. I personally am using it to help my missus through some bad memories and I gotta say, I wish that I could have one to replace the one I know will eventually be broken...

I bought this for my wife a month or so ago and she loves it to practice her Japanese writing skills. Just use water on the brush and it paints and gradually fades away. You can use any brush on the board, if you want detail or big fat strokes. The only difficulty is figuring out how much water to put on the brush - when I've tried it I've ended up with a few dark blobs which didn't dry out for quite a while. That said, they did eventually and the board was ready to use again!

This is an amazing thing and I was surprised to find it listed under 'toys' because, frankly, it's worth thousands in therapy!! A thing of beauty, a way to discover more about yourself....I love this thing!

This board acts like a cross between watercolor paper and an etch-a-sketch. Using just water, your brush strokes go on and quickly appear as dark lines on the board, but as the water dries the lines fade to shades of grey and then disappear completely. Unlike real brush and ink, this never gets messy, as it is only water. It's wonderful to practice brushwork for caligraphy or drawing, but becomes its own separate art form due to the added element of the drying times. (Which part of the drawing will disappear first? Which parts become shadows instead of lines?) We left ours out and set up for a week after we got it, and found ourselves casually stopping to paint an image. It is relaxing and enjoyable for any age.

We bought this for our 6 year old son and he Loves it!!! In fact the whole family has been enjoying it; the 30-something parents, the teenage brothers and the 2 year old sister! We can all be creative without wasting paper! The little ones learn to be patient as they wait for the board to dry to start the next masterpiece. It even come with an example sheet of Chinese characters which are fun to learn and try to copy. My only beef with the toy is the brush it comes with, it does tend to shed. We recommend buying (or using) a different brush after a while.

I'm going to have to agree with all those other reviews... if you're even reading this, you should buy the buddha board right now. It's just that awesome.
UPS delivered my buddha board this morning. I brought it to the daycare where I work, and it was a huge hit. Initially, I was terrified that the delicate-looking surface would get scratched by some kid pushing the brush too hard or that maybe someone would sneak up with a crayon, but there have been no such catastrophes as yet (I think partly due to my obsessive hovering). First, I sat down with a 2-year-old who looked especially fascinated with it, putting the brush in his hand and guiding it with my hand, telling him every few seconds to be more gentle and to barely touch the tip of the brush to the paper. After about a minute of this, he continued independently (pushing slightly harder than I was comfortable with, but not dangerously so), blackening every inch of the surface with short, fat brush strokes. He was mesmerized... it was hard to get the brush back when his mother arrived. Shortly after, I brought the buddha board to the preschool room, which had five 3-5 year-olds left for the day. Pretty soon they all abandoned the blocks and dinosaurs on the rug to see my newest toy. The promise of trying it out quickly prompted them to clean up the classroom, and then they each took turns (~2 minutes each). While one child painted (patiently enduring my nagging to be more gentle and use less water), the others intently watched new patterns appear and old ones fade, waiting patiently for their turns. Their pace was perfect--they were focused enough on small details that by the time they had painted from one side of the board to the other, their starting point had dried and was ready for a new design. We rotated through the children for at least 25 minutes without needing to wait for it to dry. The only other toy I've seen hold their attention so well is the computer. We'll see how soon the novelty wears off... I'll be bringing it back monday to show my boss, who is now considering buying a few buddha boards for the daycare. I didn't buy the buddha board for the kids, though. I found it while looking for a way to practice Japanese and Chinese without messes and without wasting ink and paper. Thus far, it has served this purpose marvelously. Watching the children play has taught me to pace myself with smaller, slower strokes. This way, I can return to the top of the board once I've filled it and find a dry surface ready for filling. I think my kana is already improving :-) |
