Buddha Machine will never be popular...,
By Bobby Johns (Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Buddha Machine II: Aqua & Lime (Audio CD)
... with the majority. The BMs stripped-down design and quirky features set it, and you, apart from the crowd. Swimming against the current, peddling uphill to a distant fog-shrouded summit, putting a stake in the ground, raging against the corporate machine -- this is the Buddha Machine. BM is rulebreaking, iconoclastic -- symbolizing an aesthetic, not something you'll feel compelled to plug into a dock and a multispeaker array. Friends, I have BM I and I couldn't order BM II fast enough. I have seldom been this rewarded by an object. But this is not to say you will agree. Kudos to FM3: wonderful idea, guys; spectacular execution! (five stars)

Interesting device, dubious sound quality,

My just-turned-teenager wanted a "hippy" themed party. This little machine served as a party gift, and functioned admirably in that capacity. As others have noted the speaker is small and low-end, which is to be expected. Interestingly enough there is also quite a bit of 'noise' in the music, which seemed, to me at least, to interfere with its intended use as a background device for meditation. I felt that if I was going to use it for a soothing background that the low quality of the sound generated might actually interfere with any efforts to calm the mind or immerse myself in a task. The kids found the slow down/speed up button to be the best feature and were amused (as a group) for a few minutes changing the soundtracks and then seeing what effect the dial would give for each. I have a feeling that the same sounds, downloaded as mp3 and then played with an iPhone or other device (with small higher quality speakers) would actually be better than the device itself. Still, for the price, it is in interesting toy.
