5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating as Celestine Prophecy, Mutant Message Downunder.
I helped edit the new Third Edition, July 2003, such was my faith in this book. A remarkable and fascinating story that hooked me in the first few pages and kept me reading until the wee hours. A few of us did our best to clean up the errors so this profound dreamtime story would shine through. I loved going on the adventure with Ed Duran, learning from Tarrance, and...

This review is from: Buddha in Redface: Third Edition (Paperback)
I helped edit the new Third Edition, July 2003, such was my faith in this book. A remarkable and fascinating story that hooked me in the first few pages and kept me reading until the wee hours. A few of us did our best to clean up the errors so this profound dreamtime story would shine through. I loved going on the adventure with Ed Duran, learning from Tarrance, and having my own world view stirred up. If you're interested in cultural/political understanding, spiritual quests, or stories of relationships and awakenings, this could be just the ticket!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read, August 23, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Buddha in Redface: Third Edition (Paperback)
This material is challenging and frightening at the same time. The author has raised the issue of possible destruction to a spiritual level, thus transcending the mundane political plane that most of the world problems are analyzed from. A must read for anyone that is remotely interested in seeing things from a different perspective.

Problems involving current issues such as the Catholic Priest Sexual disaster can be understood through the in depth teaching of the main character Tarrence. Tarrence also teaches how the overmasculinization of the mythology has contributed to such a lack of balance in the world that may lead to disastrous consequences. Read the book!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Challenge to our human future, December 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Buddha in Redface: Third Edition (Paperback)
Eduardo Duran's last book, with Bonnie Duran, was hailed by the President of the last World Congress of Psychology as a key book for our new millennial future. The book, "NATIVE AMERICAN POSTCOLONIAL PSYCHOLOGY", continues to be used in university classes, including mine, and was even transformed into a recent movie "FOLLOW ME HOME" which won at the San Francisco Film Festival. "BUDDHA IN RED FACE" is even more forceful. It would make a superb movie and I will use it in my graduate classes when it becomes available. As we move into this new century, we need to decide what is worth bringing with us from the last one: suitcases and not baggage. This book is a formidable beginning. Eduardo's mentor will inevitably be compared to Castenada's Don Juan and other historic prophets and healers practicing medicine without a paycheck. This time there is more. Beyond the multicultural insight and therapist-client role reversal, is an important warning for the most significant survival challenge to our human future. Read the book. Robert Morgan Ph.D.

5.0 out of 5 stars Postcolonial writing, December 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Buddha in Redface: Third Edition (Paperback)
Although the editing of the book is not up to standard it is understandable why the author chose to publish anyway. The material in the book is critical for this time. People all over the world need to understand that there are underlying parallel processes that influence events. Many of the processes that influence our life-world are spiritual in nature. Having read the author's other works it is plain to see that the lack of editing in this work was due to the fact that time is of the essence. We must understand the evil processes that motivate so much of what happens in our world. Recent events in our world demonstrate that not understanding or attending to evil just encourages it's manifestation. This work allows for the reader to begin an exploration into this area that is both personal and collective in nature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cosmic egg cracking!!!!!, November 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Buddha in Redface: Third Edition (Paperback)
This story literally makes the ego crack and disappear as it realizes that the dreamtime is where all that we call reality is constantly being dreamed. Use of Meso-American mythological characters is refreshing and a nice break from the usual Greco-Roman gods who never set foot on the land of the Redface. Truly groundbreaking work. The review that mentions the writing style in the book is obviously out of date, since I found the grammer and style to be in the highest polished form that is needed to tell the story. Incredible!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Paradigm shifting, November 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Buddha in Redface: Third Edition (Paperback)
The story depicted here takes our consciousness into a new level of awareness. The author allows us to see that our actions are not simply within the relative world of politics or just interpersonal interactions. All of our actions are ladened with intent that has a karmic effect at spiritual levels that can impact our whole planet. A must read for socio-political types who see the world as a quantified system that is separate from our innermost spiritual being. A real pager turner!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars New Genre, November 26, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Buddha in Redface: Third Edition (Paperback)
After hearing the author speak on the radio about the book I had to see what this new genre mentioned on the show was about. While reading the book I realized that 'Postcolonial Magical Realism' is definitely new ground being broken. For so long stories based in the Americas have been subjected to such stingent colonial realism that the very spirit of the story is stifled. It is truly inspiring to see that someone has taken the leap and moved across genres in a profound act of courage and faith. It is time that the spirit of the land is restored.

It is said that new ceremonies come along at a time when they are needed the most. "Buddha In Redface" is a ceremony whose time has come.

2.0 out of 5 stars Buddha in Redface, August 31, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Buddha in Redface: Third Edition (Paperback)
Although I find the subject matter of this book incredibly interesting, I find it hard to believe that the Writers Club Press did not choose to proof it before printing it! I myself am no great scholar but, to find grammar, punctuation and typographical errors on every single page is just too much! I found this so distracting that I had a hard time enjoying the story. With so many punctuation errors, a reader must go back over several sentences on each page to figure out exactly what the author is trying to say. This makes for a choppy and difficult read. Often during the reading of this book, I felt as though I were reading the work of a middle school student who went back with a thesaurus and replaced basic words with difficult words that he or she didn't understand. It's really a shame because this is a subject that I am very interested in. I feel that it would have been an excellent book had it not been rushed into publication. There was a sentence in the forward that stated that no main stream publisher would touch this book. I get the feeling that the author was so self-absorbed that he refused to let an editor make a single change to the original copy. This is truly a shame.
