1.0 out of 5 stars Not Recommended, December 12, 2007
This review is from: Buddha Lounge Tribute to the Beatles (Audio CD)
I love Beatle cover tunes and have a huge collection and this is definitely bottom of the barrel. The ingredients are synthesizer, an electronic drum track, and occasional use of tabla and sitar. In the background on a couple of tracks is a siren. I kid you not. I was listening this in the car and kept checking the rear view mirror. This sounds like a mash up of Lord Sitar and the Hollyridge Strings. That sounds better than it is, Both Lord Sitar and the Hollyridge Strings are enjoyable. This disc is not.

2.0 out of 5 stars "Eastern"-ish versions of Beatles Songs--recommended for completists only!, March 4, 2007

This review is from: Buddha Lounge Tribute to the Beatles (Audio CD)
Of course there are many, many Beatles tribute albums out there, many covering different genres of music. There have been a handful of 'eastern' tribute albums, of which this would fall. Thank Big Eye music for this one, a label that apparently only releases fringe tribute albums.

Ultimately, base your decision on buying this or not by asking yourself if you would like some great Beatles songs done with an eastern-ish feel.

I say "Eastern-ish" because, although there are some eastern elements, and the CD case does indeed state that the songs "[used] traditional instrumentation of the Far East," it sounded to me like a bunch of synths were used. Traditional Indian music this is not!

The pros are that this CD does include a slighly obsure tracklist, which is good, since we get to hear some songs not traditionally covered by other tribute albums.

There are no vocals, so this is an instrumental tribute disc. Also, the liner notes are completly lacking any notation on who preformed these songs, or when or where they were recorded.

Taking everything into account, people are still going to buy this disc, since it is about The Beatles. But, I recommend this for Beatle completists only. I do not recommend this for fans of true Eastern music.
