5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely essential for any serious student of Buddhism
There is simply no other book like this one, and its importance cannot be overstated. It translates and clearly explains a lexicon of Pali terms that are of vital importance to a proper understanding of Buddhist philosophy. Anyone who aspires to a proper understanding of the Dhamma discovered and proclaimed by Gotama Buddha should obtain this book and study it closely...

It translates and clearly explains a lexicon of Pali terms that are of vital importance to a proper understanding of Buddhist philosophy. Anyone who aspires to a proper understanding of the Dhamma discovered and proclaimed by Gotama Buddha should obtain this book and study it closely. It is one of the brightest jewels of modern Buddhist scholarship.

I will merely say that this so-called dicitionary, though a dictionary of sorts, is limited to words found in the Suttas. It does NOT contain the real hairy words that were invented later and for which one would really need a dictionary.
It does not contain, for example, words like MADHYAMIKA, ADVAYA, SAMSKRTA--all fairly commonly used philosophical terms by latter day Buddhist thinkers. That is why I say the title is misleading--it gives you the impresion that it is more comprehensive than the author ever intended. It took me a while to figure this out and was disappointed on many an occasion, wasting time looking up words this book could not possibly contain.
It should have been titled < A Concise Dictionary of Buddhist Terms found in the Suttas>.
