2.0 out of 5 stars Uncomplete translation of the Dhammasangani, March 8, 2007
This review is from: Buddhist Manual of Psychological Ethics (Paperback)
Be aware, this translation of the Dhammasangani is uncomlplete and from 1900. The book has some value as a reprint of an otherwise unavailable text, but only for those who know what they are searching. The comments of CAF Rhys Davis might be helpful to understand the Dhammasangani in some instances, but can't replace a full translation of Buddhaghosa's Comment Text like Nyanatiloka's Darlegung der Bedeutung or Pe Maung Tin's The Expositor both available from the Pali Text Society. Anyway, the comments in CAF Rhys Davis work seem only to be excerpts from Buddhaghosa's Comments. I would recommend for those who want a complete translation U Kyaw Khine's two Vol. book Dhammasangani, Enumeration of the Ultimate Realities available e.g. from Wisdom Books (Indian Print of sometimes limited quality). This work has a size of 830 pages compared to CAF Rys Davis text of only 488 pages. One can imagine already from these numbers, how much might be missing. Only the somewhat lower price of this paperback is nice, compared to the Pali Text Society issue with the same name.
