Crystal clear sound quality, extra tracks, original liner notes and album art, plus the great talent of Buddy Holly. This is a great slice of rock and roll history and an excellent value!

This CD has some material you just won't find on the greatest hits packages. Since he did not get to make much music, why not buy the few original albums he did so that you have all of his great music? Even on the few lesser tracks (cover versions of other people's songs), he still sings and plays with a great deal of heart and soul.

Geffen has done a nice job with this! The bonus tracks are good and the sound is definitely superior to the original CD released a few years back. Buy it - You will not be disappointed. We just now need the rest of his catalog remastered! Will we ever see a Box set from this genius??

Despite the solo billing, this is just as much a Buddy Holly & The Crickets album as the debut ("The Chirpin' Crickets"). And much like the debut, it is overflowing with ear candy - melodies so catchy that you start humming along on first listen, and lyrical hooks that embed themselves forever in your memory. Most brilliantly of all, though, is how these songs are rendered in the simplest of terms, with a rolling drum beat or a rhythm guitar solo whose tone couldn't be improved by any amount of studio electronics or multi-track retakes.

The classics ("I'm Gonna Love You To" "Peggy Sue" "Listen to Me" "Everyday" "Words of Love" "Rave On") speak for themselves - their sounds are phonemes of the rock 'n' roll vocabulary. The rest of the album's tracks don't necessarily measure up to these brilliant points of light, but they provide superb connectivity. The love song "Look at Me" isn't as distinctive as its successor ("Listen to Me"), but it's interesting to hear Holly singing against a piano, rather than a guitar. "Ready Teddy" shows Holly ready to rock (if perhaps not too threateningly), and "You're So Square (Baby I Don't Care)" is charmingly nerdy compared to Elvis' hits.

Bonus tracks on this reissue include the organ-backed "Take Your Time," the up-beat hand-clapping revival of Bobby Darin's "Early in the Morning," and the marriage celebrating "Now We're the One." None match the quality of the album's best tracks, but they are nice additions to this essential document of rock 'n' roll.
