Two guys that obviously enjoy working together. Some new music, and some inspired cover choices (Bobby Charles "Down South in New Orleans" and Joe Tex "I want to do Everything for you" for starters). It's a slim volume (only 34 minutes), but i guess better than the alternative ("i'm bored, i'll hit the button for the next track")

Nothing fancy here, just a couple of guys sitting around and jamming with a tight backup band

I think Buddy Miller is one of the most talented musician/songwriters living today. I've got bunches of his albums and his wife's albums, so I had high hopes for this album, since Jim Lauderdale is no slouch either, but I thought the overall album was pretty mediocre. That's not to suggest it's bad or not worth having, but it's disappointing in the context of what I know Buddy Miller is capable of and has done in the past.

After cutting 4 hard core country classics for the Hightone label, Buddy's recordings for the New West Label have mixed things up a bit...first a gospel record...then a record with Julie...and most recently an ensemble record that wasn't even really country. On "Buddy and Jim" he manages to mix the best aspects of both his Hightone and New West recordings. This is an old school hard country record very much in the same vein as his Hightone records. Simultaneously, throwing Jim Lauderdale into the mix does change things up a bit. The combination is PERFECT. These two legends lay it down exactly as you would expect them too Every single song is dynamite. The originals have the sly wit and emotional directness of their best work, while the covers throw in a fun element and remind everyone that this record was cut in three days. Quite the combination. Masterful stuff.

I really like the vocal harmonies here. But harmony is something you'll always find on a Buddy CD. "Forever and a Day" has beautiful vocals mated with a pretty steel guitar melody. The re-worked version of "Looking for a Heartache" from an earlier Buddy CD is actually an improved rendition.

In the running for the Americana album of the year! I listen to it all the time in my car.

Makes me want to sing along and dance. A good addition to any collection. I look forward to more from these Musicians.

Well, I'm not disappointed in the least by this delightful pairing of two truly great singer-songwriters, both of whom are among the best in current contemporary country ... or Americana, or whatever genre you care to stick them in. The bottom line is quality songs, and once again these guys have plenty to offer..

I've been a fan of both Jim Lauderdale and Buddy Miller for many years, but I still approached this album with a bit of caution, fearing that it wouldn't meet my expectations. But I'm both pleased and relieved that this is such a solid effort. Solid? Hmm, it wouldn't be such a stretch to call this outstanding. Fans of these two guys know how proficient they are with their instruments, and of course what great songwriters they both are, and on this album they use those talents to shine. Plus, the couple of covers that they do are a lot of fun too, a version of Joe Simon's "I Want To Do Everything For You" and Jimmy McCracklin's "The Wobble."

I'm surprised that there is such a wide range of reactions to this album. I would think that most fans of either Miller or Lauderdale would be very happy with what they hear on this CD. I'm certainly pleased.

The first track is dynamic and sort of exciting, enough that what follows, in a variety of genres, is for the most part disappointing. Too many styles going on in the same collection to suit my taste. I Ike these guys a lot, but I don't think they mesh completely on this one.

Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale are two of the best writers and performers in the Americana/Country/Folk scene. The album itself is one of the best I,ve heard in quite some time.

They are always great together, but I think they could have added a few more tunes, as this is a very short album!
