After finding this metal gem, I happily trashed the flimsy plastic file box purchased at a local office supply store. If you need one of these larger boxes, this is a sturdy, well made one. The lid hinge works smoothly and lid and box meet squarely at the edges, which the plastic one did not. The box is well proportioned to hold ample cards while not hogging a lot of shelf space.

I had a metal 5 X 8 file box that I purchased back in 1991 or so. I am still using it for my recipes. Recently I ran out of room for my recipes and needed to buy an additional file box. This one was the only one that I could find on Amazon that was metal and the size I needed. I recieved it and noticed the poor craftmanship immediately. First of all, the lid was tweaked and it wouldn't open or shut properly. I had to get out some pliers and bend one side so it would open and shut properly. Secondly, paint was chipped off in one spot and there were rough spots all over it where the paint didn't go on smoothly. I had to take some sandpaper to it so that I wouldn't cut my fingers on it. Thirdly, some of the corner edges are very sharp. I am keeping it only because I need a box this size and I don't want plastic or cardboard. It is definately not worth the $27 that I paid for it! I would put a value of $10 on this item. Look around to find something better made!
