Definitely pick this up. There. I said it. Cut to the chase and make no bones about it. You got Buddy Rich, you got Harry Edison. You also got Barney Kessel laying down some of the sweetest guitar licks you've ever heard. Do you really need any more convincing? Ok, this is a limited-edition release. Sure, it sounds like a long time off when you hear that it will be around until September 2006, but that will come and go before you know it. And, why put off for that long enjoying this beautiful music? So, do yourself a favor and just get this already. For this price, you reallly cannot go wrong. These cats are in top form here and do not stop from start to finish. Truly a "highly recommended" release if ever there was one.

Buddy Rich, Harry Sweets Edison, Jimmy Rowles, Barney Kessel, and John Simmons. You couldn't ask for a better quintet. Sweets makes the trumpet sing. When I first heard Yellow Rose of Brooklyn, I was very surprised at Buddy's solo. Don't get me wrong, the solo was great but it was different than his usual exciting solos. On Easy Does It, you hear Buddy with his brush work. Buddy's solo in Barney's Bugle is just mind blowing, that's all I can say on it. The other tracks were excellent as well. This is my number two favorite album in Buddy Rich's discography. Though this album was recorded in 1955, it still sounds fresh today.

The version I have was made in the EU and comes in a mini-lp replica sleeve which is a little flimsy; I guess they don't make 'em as well as the Japanese do but still this is remastered quite well and so the sound quality is quite good. I used to think that Led Zeppelin's Bonham was pretty good witness his work on "Moby Dick" but heck, this guy Buddy is even better! I can think of no better essential listening than this for any aspiring drummer. I was also impressed by the guitarist who plays some really tasty licks here. Didn't think too much about Sweet's contribution which seemed a little subdued. Overall and for this price, a great bargain; recommended for all drum fans out there.
