Product Description

One of the difficult tricks to a good drywall taping job is getting the right amount of the mud on the tape. Too much or too little and it just won't stick right. Tape Buddy eliminates this issue by pre-loading the perfect amount of drywall mud onto the tape - saving you time, money and effort. In fact, only the TapeBuddy applies more compound to the center of the tape where more compound is needed most. There is no need to pre-mud drywall joints or work with heavy, bulky equipment. Tape Buddy is lightweight and inexpensive, making it the perfect solution for those difficult drywall taping jobs. It will stand up to years of rugged use because there are no moving parts, and it's made of high density poly-ethylene plastic (HDPE). Comes with full instructions and a tips & tricks sheet. Tape sold separately.

I bought two of these direct from the company, before he offered them on Amazon. I bought two because I figured I'd break one or not clean it in time and it would be all caked with dried mud. Now I've just got a second one as a spare, or maybe a birthday gift to give away.

The TapeBuddy makes it so simple, but as many others have written, the secret is in getting the mud right. The best consistency is about halfway between pudding and creamy peanut butter. Too thick, and it won't coat the tape evenly. Too thin, and it will run out of the mud compartment and all over the place.

Another tip I read on the TapeBuddy website was to wrap the mud shim in one or two layers of duct tape if you're putting too much mud on the tape. I've got one layer of tape on mine and it's just about perfect. I haven't tried any pieces longer than my wingspan (about six feet), but I've got some ceiling that's next and I think I'm going for longer pieces for that.

And it cleans up nicely, just using water and a small paintbrush. All in all, this is an excellent DIY tool.

I'm building my own house again ... the first was 35 years ago. I had tried a banjo-type taping machine a friend owned back then and didn't like it. My efforts at using paper tape had yielded some air pockets so eventually I used some fiberglass tape instead. But my book written by a "pro" says the best is paper. Then I found the Tape Buddy, read the reviews and thought for the price it was worth a gamble. The gamble paid off. This is a great little tool and I can't believe how simple it makes taping both butt joints as well as corners. I use scissors to cut the mudded tape to a convenient working length; maybe it's because I need to sharpen my taping knife to make cuts like I saw on the video. If you're doing corners, it is important that the tape roll be properly oriented. It just takes one swipe of a corner tool or knife to make a perfect application. I found that using this tool in conjunction with a Magic Trowel for the follow-on mud makes my work faster and much better. Tool clean-up outside with a hose is fast and easy. I called the company with a question about using setting joint compound and got knowledgeable help from, I assume, the owner ..... but it at least was a guy who still does taping himself. Made in America .... can't beat it! Amazon made it an easy buy!

Super easy to use absolutley perfect for taping, only suggestion is to keep plenty of mud in hoper and shack it once in a while to keep mud on top of the tape as it's being pulled out otherwise it will skip some parts of the tape...

This item is wonderful. I hung new sheet rock in my daughters room and was trying to do taping and mudding for the first time and it was awful. I found this while looking for sand paper. Boy am I glad I ordered it. Made taping so much easier and neater. Wonderful product and would recommended to any DIYer. :)

I was a first time taper and heard all the horror stories how the taping was the most annoying part of drywalling. But with the Tape Buddy it was easy and I actually enjoyed it! I offer my taping services to all my friends now with great results! I highly reccomend this tool for DIYers...

I'm new to dry walling, and this has made the learning process a little easier. Taping seems to be the hardest part of the process. This makes applying tape a breeze. It's really easy to use!! It's saved me a lot of time and effort, no doubt.

I originally picked up this machine for odds and end jobs as it was so inexpensive. As a contractor I decided it would be an appropriate gift for some of my employees, trade buddies and some friends that weren't so skilled. Turns out that everybody liked it for its simple ability. One of my friends who lives in Colorado had several high school students help him on weekends to tape and finish his home 3,500+sq.ft. I went out to apply finishes for him and was impressed that a bunch of kids could do the base taping as well as some of the guys I spent a lot of time training. It's not a bazooka but it will do the same job for smaller runs without the cleanup. I would recommend this little green machine to anyone that has taping to do, especially if they have never done it before.
