The debut solo album by Buddy Whittington, one of the finest blues guitarists playing today, featuring nothing short of breathtaking guitar playing.

I saw Buddy perform with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers last Saturday in Saint-Nazaire, France. He knocked the crowd out with his playing, singing and stage presence. I bought the CD and discovered that he is not only an outstanding guitarist and singer, but also an excellent songwriter, who writes well-crafted intelligent lyrics. It's hard to pick favorites among all the strong songs, but I especially enjoyed "Minor Blues," with its depiction of third world conditions in American cities, and a great line on the chorus; "It's a major situation givin' me the minor blues". "Stevie Rave On" is a fitting tribute to a fellow Texan, while "Second Banana" is a hilarious and ironic commentary on stardom, with lots of clever rhymes (Santana/banana) that will appeal to anyone into the Great American Songbook.

I've been listening to this CD everyday as I drive into work. I pull into the parking lot just as the last tune, "EVery goodbye ain't gone," starts playing. It's got an infectious groove that reminds me of Weather Report's Birdland. I've found that singing along with it is a great way to start the day. Needless to say, Buddy has a tight band playing stellar arrangements with loads of perfectly executed ideas that I'm sure will stand the test of time.

After have spent several years touring and recording with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, it looks like Buddy Whittington is starting his solo career. Well, nothing strange as many of his colleagues of the past did exactly the same reaching a worldwide notoriety. Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mike Taylor, Coco Montoya and Walter Trout, were Bluesbreakers band members. I sow Buddy playing live with John Mayall three times, twice in UK and once in Italy and I have to say that he always impressed me a lot. Therefore I bought the CD as soon as it was available with great curiosity. The album is very good and confirms Buddy ability as guitar player, however and most notably it shows that Buddy is also an excellent singer. Budd's guitar work shines throughout the entire album and confirms his talent, however I was expecting more blues orientated materials and from this point of view, I have been left with a little bit of disappointment. Never the less this is a very good rock/blues album that surely will be appreciated by everyone who like this style of music.

I first heard Buddy in John Mayall's band, and I have to say this guy is fantastic. In a fair world he would be famous and everybody would know his name. Just watch John Mayall's 70th birthday concert, he flat out killed. With Mick Taylor and Eric Clapton playing, Buddy stole the show. This is the best new album I've bought in years, all the songs are great.Buddy's singing is great also. His guitar playing has so much feel, and what great touch, but the songs really make the album. Great job Buddy!! Please make some more solo music. Buy this album, you can't lose, it's great!!

I never had the pleasure of seeing Buddy when he was with Mayall. But I've known Buddy since high school days, and it was clear to everyone that he had a passion for the guitar. Now I've seen him, and purchased this CD, and I can say flat out that not only does he still have the passion, but he has a God given gift that he's done an incredible job of developing. His playing is superb. Lyrically, he's 6 stars on a scale of 1 to 5. And his vocals are just as impressive. I'd heard him play on Youtube, but as often is the case, audience recordings sometimes don't do the artist justice. For anyone that was ever into some of the great bluesmen such as SRV, Freddie King, et al, you owe it to yourself to become acquainted with this guy. He's evidently a god in Europe, and he's more than worthy of being held in high esteem world wide. You owe it to yourself to go catch this guy if you get a chance. Yea, it's understandable if one would think I might be a little bias because of us being old schoolmates, but trust me, this guy is worthy of all the praise he gets. Pick up this CD and you'll understand where I'm coming from. At least Youtube him and hear it for yourself. Then imagine being there. Then do yourself a favor and pick this up.

I know Buddy by person. Not only is he the best thing happenin' right now. He is a genuine human being to boot. He can play slide out of this world and wonderful vocals. Not to mention his songwriting, wich is very well thought out and comical at times. Imagine spending 15 years in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, that's a record in itself. If you know ANYTHING about good music buy this record.

The years with John Mayall did him good. Buddy is now ready to fly on his own. Bought this record a few months ago. What a pleasant surprise. If you like bluesy rock, or if you will white man's blues this is it. You won't regret it. It's so simple and clean and so full of soul. That guitar will be be dangerous in a few years; it's already probably the best in it's class. Hey Buddy what's cooking next !!! Thanks for these awesome tracks. Dan

Buddy is a brilliant guitarist, this debut album is absolutely great. I would describe the style as West Coast Blues (if there is such a thing). I've been to see him play a few times with John Mayall and laterly on his own supporting Gary Moore, but he was actually much better than flash Gary.
Buy this if you want good honest blues/rock played by a master of the guitar.
