Praise:
"I'd definitely recommend Buddy the Rat. However, because of the
seriousness of the content and drama thatrecommendation holds for
older teens and adults alike, children need not apply."
                                                  - Richard Edwards, Book Reviewer

"What a surprise! Reminiscient of The Rats of Nihm but packs more punch."
                              - Joseph Terney, Author of My Pants Are Full of Cats.

"Heart wrenching and sorrowful."- Shania Marie Anderson

"Epic! Finished it in one sitting because I couldn't put it
down." - J. R. Long

4.0 out of 5 stars WARNING - Very Graphic Cruelty to Animals August 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you are at all squeamish about reading about cruelty to animals then this book is not for you. The first third of the book is filled with vivid descriptions of animal cruelty at the hands of sadistic teens. I almost couldn't get through it. This is not a book for children, nor would I recommend it to anyone under 16. Overall this is a dark, sad story.

Then why the high rating? Because the writing is so powerful and compelling. The changes in person and tense as Buddy goes from one "life" to another are particularly effective. I enjoyed the descriptiveness, and looking at things through the rat's eyes. In fact this book was so vivid it gave me a nightmare!

There is much here to ponder, particularly the "community" Buddy finds himself part of. Sort of a 1984 gone rodent.

If you enjoy a dark, dystopian read, and don't mind reading about animals being hurt and tormented you will probably get a lot out of this book. However, this is not your mother's Charlotte's Web.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inside the head of Rat September 17, 2012
Format:Paperback
The book follows Buddy the rat on his journey from the isle of a department store to his dream of outdoors freedom.
I had a hard time reading this one. It follows Buddy and I think pretty accurately describes life as a rat. I think that sometimes the author tries a little too hard to get into the head of the rat and it makes this a kind of a dull read. I also wondered if the author hated his main character because he just could not let Buddy have a few minutes of peace. Over all, the story was depressing and a bit sadistic. The author has an interesting writing style but I think the subject just didn't "pop". I hate being a Negative Nancy but I won't sugar coat things either, this is not something I would ever read again. I wish the author the best of luck in future writings and think there is potential for awesomness, but this was not it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Booksy is worth a Looksy August 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Here's my two bits about 'Buddy the Rat'

Pros: Engaging story, well-written, grammar and spelling, memorable and thoughtful

Cons: 1) It's a full length novel but could have gone longer, especially in the Rat Colony section; 2) A bit more on the PG-13 side than the cover suggests; 3) So sad! I didn't expect a happy story because I'd read similar, like Rats of Nimh and Watership Down but I really wanted good things for little Buddy.

Verdict: Worth a read so long as you're okay with heavy drama.

2.0 out of 5 stars definitely not for children!
This story was well written, but not one I would think parents would want their children to read. It is a haunting story of life, love, acceptance and loss. Read more
