Everything you need to know to safely stay in shape during your pregnancy

Many expectant mothers experience dramatic weight gain during pregnancy, but the myth that they shouldn’t exercise is just that—a myth. Now Sue Fleming, a longtime personal trainer and author of the highly successful Buff Brides, gives us a comprehensive guide for expectant mothers who want to remain healthy, strong, and fit. Buff Moms-to-Be shares effective exercises (approved by doctors) for ensuring an easier pregnancy, a smoother birth, and the fastest way back to that pre-baby body. Inside you’ll discover

• simple strategies for starting an exercise program
• what to expect from your changing body
• safe aerobic exercises, stretches, and strength training
for women at all levels of fitness and all stages of pregnancy
• a complete workout and exercise regimen designed to
ease labor and delivery

Fully illustrated with photographs demonstrating poses and postures, Buff Moms-to-Be is like having your own personal trainer in the comfort of your own home. Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In this guide for expecting mothers, Fleming (Buff Brides) presents an exercise program that should help pregnant women maintain their own health as they carry their children to term. Photographs of women in the early stages and advanced months of pregnancy accompany the instructions for stretching, weight lifting and cardiovascular exercise. Though the program Fleming outlines is really an ordinary workout for strength and flexibility, many women will appreciate the specially modified techniques and exercises, as well as the descriptions of precautionary measures, which she has developed expressly for pregnant and post-partum women.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners only, July 6, 2004

If you're new to stretching and exercising with weights, this is a very good book. It's easy to follow and the pictures are very helpful. However, if you have any experience at all, I would not recommend the book, it's pretty basic stuff. The information I wanted to learn about exercise and pregnancy was there, but that's all I really got out of it.

i don't think that this book is anything special. if you're already fit and are looking for ways to change your fitness routine during pregnancy, this book isn't all that helpful. if you're new to working out, it may benefit you more.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are pregnant, you need this book!, August 15, 2005
This review is from: Buff Moms-to-Be: The Complete Guide to Fitness for Expectant Mothers (Paperback)
I have been an avid gym goer for most of my adult life. However, I had questions about what I could continue once I found out I was pregnant; everyone has differing opinions, and I was getting caught in the middle!

This book is highly insightful, and gives much more than just a few exercises for pregnancy. It explains how you are feeling during pregnancy, what to expect while your body changes, and why certain things are not recommended. It then goes right into how to modify your workout to continue to keep your body fit. The workout has been great for me with morning sickness and fatigue as well, since many days I cannot imagine driving that 40 min round trip to the gym! I still feel "buff", and it fits my lifestyle. I can imagine continuing this workout post baby (there is a section of postpartum exercises to get you back in shape too) as I don't anticipate much extra time in my day to take that drive once the baby comes. For all buff moms to be, this is your book!
