The IR-100 is the heart of the Infrared Control system. Able to drive up to 15 IR-250 repeaters and 4 IR-EL flashers, any number of IR100s can be paralleled if more flashers or repeaters are required. Powered is provided by either a 9V, 500mA adapter or 12VDC, 1.2A for large, complex IR systems (both sold separately). A visible confirmation LED that flashes when a signal is present, and the unit measures only: 3-1/8" x 1-3/4".

I've had the Buffalo Electronics IR-100 receiver installed in my entertainment system for a couple years now and it has worked flawlessly. I use their IR-350 as the pickup, and I've got four IR-E1 IR Flashers going to my various components.

It works well with the individual component remotes, as well as my new Logitech Harmony universal remote.

This didn't work at all with a Samsung LCD HDTV and an HD TiVo. The TV created interference that overwhelmed the IR sensor and generated too strong a signal in the IR flasher that the TiVo wouldn't accept. I could get it to work intermittently by wrapping the IR flasher in paper to degrade the signal, but then it wouldn't work for the first minute after turning on the TV. It also wouldn't work if I pointed the remote directly at the IR receiver. I had to point it off axis to make it work.

After talking with an infrared hardware expert where I work, I instead purchased a XANTECH 49085DKit LCD-Proof Designer Micro Link Infrared Kit, which is specifically designed to filter out interference from LCD TV's and compact fluorescent lights. It works perfectly no matter what direction I point the remote, and I'm a lot happier now.

I recommend buying this instead:

I used the IR-100 receiver as part of a system (also including the IR-350 sensor) to construct a remote control receiver system to pass remote control IR signals to my Comcast/Motorola HD cable receiver and an Impact Acoustics component video switch, both hidden behind a cabinet door. The system works flawlessly to pass signals to the hidden components. I researched this problem extensively on the internet (including amazon.com) and concluded that the IR-100/IR-350 offered the best balance of reasonable cost and quality construction/performance. The IR-350 was mounted in a Radio Shack 4" x 2" x 1" plastic project box, and the result is visually very acceptable (it sits adjacent to my Bose Lifestyle 38 console). Echoing other favorable reviews of this product, I wholeheartedly recommend it.
