A Good Fun Game For More Than Just Parties!,
By
This review is from: Last Word (Toy)
I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting games. This game is much more fun and fast paced than I thought it was going to be.
The object of the game is to be the last person to shout out a answer in order to move around the board. Each person has a subject card, these subjects range from "All about parks" to "Things in a video store" to "Vegetables" and so on. At the beginning of each turn, a letter card is turned over. If the letter is "C" for example, each person tries to come up with an answer that both matches their own subject card as well as the letter. Players race to put their card down and give an answer first and then hit the timer. Whichever subject card is played, now everyone tries to match that criteria after the timer goes off. Now, the timer has been rigged to go off at different intervals, however each interval is very short, between 10-30 seconds a turn. Whoever can get the last answer in before the timer goes off moves ahead on the board. There is also a "jump start" where if everyone looks stumped on their original subject cards someone can hit the timer and call out "jump start" and see if they can stump the other players. If nobody can come up with an answer before the timer goes off, the person who initiated the jump start will move forward 2 spaces. It's a fast paced game that keeps you thinking and seeing how fast your brain can come up with answers of the fly, which makes it both a great party game as well as a educational game. One of the best parts about the game is that it can be played with as few as 2 people. This for me is a huge plus! It seems like nearly all my games require 4 players anymore, so this is a fun one to pull out with smaller crowds. They also include instructions for team play if you are playing with children, large groups or people that just aren't that great at thinking on their feet. Final Verdict: A great game that can easily be added to anyone's game collection, young, old or anywhere in between.

I played this game for the first time at a family reunion in September and enjoyed it so much that I promptly bought it. It is very fun, interactive, it does get you to think, could broaden your vocabulary. But most of all is a fun, easy to learn group game that gets everyone laughing, negotiating and having to come up with group consensus on the validity of answers. I highly recommend it.

How to Play:
Everyone has a subject card, for example you could have one that said Girl's Names, Player #2 could have Dog Breeds and Player #3 could have All About Getting Old. Then someone flips over a letter card. It's D. Player #2 puts down their subject card (Dog Breeds) and says Dalmatian and hits the buzzer. Then everyone starts saying Dog Breeds that start with D. So you say Dachshund, Player #3 says Doberman, then the buzzer goes off. Player #3 said the last Dog Breed that started with D (before the buzzer) so Player #3 moves one space on the board. Why its so Much Fun: I really don't know why its so much fun, it just is. People are trying so hard to think that their brain "over-heats" and starts being stupid. Like your supposed to keep your subject card to yourself but sometimes you pick it up and say it on accident. And we tend to say things that don't even start with the letter. And then there are some subjects that you can come up with some funny things for. Its not the same thing everytime. We could play 4 rounds of it and not get the same combinations, you might get Dog Breeds in the first round and the fourth round but you might not get it with D everytime. It appeals to all ages!! It sure does, I've played it with people from 12-grandparents and everyone has so much fun with it. And its just so easy. I mean sometimes you get stumped on one (mine are Cocktails and Things found at a Casino) but thats why you have a trade-in card that allows you to get a new subject card (one time use) So overall this is probably my favorite game. Definitely give it a try, I know you won't be disappointed.

The idea of this game sounded awesome - kind of a cross between catch phrase and scattergories. Unfortunately the idea didn't quite translate all the way into the actual game. For the first few rounds everyone was having a blast and we were coming up with good answers to the categories, but after a while the game just gets stale. The timer doesn't last very long at all so you don't really have much time to think of good quality answers. This leads to either a whole round of silence or even worse a round where people will yell any word that starts with the letter even if it has nothing to do with the category. After a few heated discussions we all lost interest in this game and ended up going back to catch phrase or to the wii. Buffalo makes great board games and instead of this one I'd recommend getting Imaginiff - as long as everyone playing the game has the same circle of friends.

This game involves a vocabulary card - Name Items in a Dentist Office, for example, and a letter card. A random timer is used and players must name any items that can fit into the category and begins with the letter turned over. It is much harder than it seems but people can be very inventive in trying to win. A very fun game, but I would reserve time to learn more vocabulary to play the game well too.

We love to play games in my home and this one sounded like fun. It's ok but I wouldn't reccomend it for avid game players. We played it once and no one really wants to play it again.

A group of us get together about once a month for game night, with word and thought games being the most popular. We've been playing BuzzWords for a couple of months (GREAT GAME!). I bought Last Word because it seemed to be a fun alternative. We played a rousing game of BuzzWords then switched to Last Word. I thought we were all going to fall asleep. It might be better if played in teams, but even then, it took forever for 8 of us to move even 2 or 3 squares. The concept sounded good -- but the execution was pretty bad.

Bad concept for a board game,

As others have mentioned this is a good idea, but because there is virtually no structure or rules, it is guaranteed to end in argument or confusion. For example, let's say that the category is "something you would see in a park", and the letter is "L". Someone says "lake". OK, maybe that makes sense. Then someone says "little dog". Really? Maybe... The someone says "little cat". Huh? Is two words OK? Wouldn't you have cats and dogs anywhere, not just in a park? In fact, couldn't you name just about any object beginning with an L and say that you could find it in a park? A lunchbox, a lion, a leprechaun. You could make a case for anything... and so that's the major flaw with this game. It gets more and more frustrating as people stretch their guesses more and more to include ANYTHING, just so they could claim "last word".

We have had this game for a few years and it is a favorite to play at family gatherings with cousins of all ages - and adults as well, which is a great thing. The rules are easy to learn so easy to play. The buzzer is great, as it's a "random" timed buzzer, so adds fun to the game to see who get in the last word. I highly recommend this game!

Fun family table game. Good for teens, too advanced for younger kids. Try to advance around the board by giving answers to a word clue (ie. types of vegatables, or car names, etc) that all begin with a predetermined letter that is selected from a role of the dice. I like the interaction because it forces my teens to expand their vocabulary and think fast. When timer starts people yell out answers, last answer given before random timer goes off wins the round and moves one space. Can get loud, but not as bad as I thought as people run out of answers quickly. Timer is random and short so rounds go fast. New topic and new letter each round. Gave 4 stars because timer is not quite loud enough to be heard easily over the shouts. (have to hold to my ear if action gets too roudy). My kids didn't like games till I got this one and several others. It is lots of fun and recommended. Good adult mixer too.
