Still not hard enough!,

Photomosaics are definitely my favorite puzzles by far, and this one does not disappoint! It's tough but very doable if you are a true puzzle fan looking for a challenge (it only took me a few concentrated days to complete during a break from work/school). The civil war photos are detailed, educational, and thought-provoking. I highly recommend this puzzle...if you think you can handle it!

I liked this puzzle for reasons similar to why the previous reviewer didn't like it. It was very hard, because the tiny photos are all black and white from the civil war era. The satisfaction of completing it was that much better because of the difficulty, and unlike many puzzles it makes great wall art because of the photomosaic image.
Then again, I'm perhaps a little masochistic when it comes to puzzles; I like the ones where the image is just a blue sky. If you're easily bored or frustrated this isn't for you; otherwise it's a blast! I gave it 2 stars for durability simply because puzzles by nature aren't very durable if they're made of cardboard, and 3 stars for educational because the civil war images are a very interesting supplement to more complete history found elsewhere.

As cool as I may think photomosaics are, I have discovered that they are no good for puzzling (at least if you think like me). This photomosaic uses the same photos over and over again, and the whole thing is in black and white, so as you could imagine it gets quite boring quite quickly. I never solved it, because it was too difficult (due to its repetitive nature), and it was too difficult because it was too boring. Don't bother with this one.

my puzzle cover is a little different - it shows his left eye up close,
covering part of the picture, so i have no idea what's behind the eyeball - guess that is part of it's challenge. i've worked on it about two weeks, three hours a day, and have about 1/5 done. i have to wear my best reading glasses, and use a big hand-held magnifying glass to see the pieces or the design on the box. it wasn't fun. too many pieces looked exactly the same, like soldiers all in a row. no gore, no wagon trains, no close-ups of the weapons used, no women that looked "interesting" as those women that followed. i don't even think the gettysburg burial ground was there. one neat piece i can't find where to put it yet is the top half of a little square photo, and i can see abe lincoln's stovepipe hat on him, standing right in the middle of an open tent. if the photos were bigger, you could see it better, and maybe learn something. but i can't tell what half the pieces are in the first place. i have a standard lunch table, and it takes up the whole table, with my little plates of pieces, like trees, people, buildings, all white, wheels, horses, weird things. the white foam plates are stacked. i wouldn't do another one, even this one, again. see photos i took of it. UPDATED: finally finished it, and the more done it got, the faster it went together. i won't do another mosaic again. |
