2.0 out of 5 stars Not supported on 64-bit operating systems
This device is a repackaged Ralink USB adapter.

Ralink supports a 64-bit environment on their drivers, but the shipped Buffalo driver CD will not launch in Vista 64.

Note: This is NOT a driver incompatibility, it is sheer laziness on Buffalo's part coding their installer.

This review is from: Buffalo Technology Nfiniti Wireless-N Ultra Compact Client USB 2.0 Adapter WLI-UC-GN (Personal Computers)
I purchased the Buffalo Wireless-N Ultra Compact USB 2.0 Adapater to provide
wireless capability for the WD TV Live that I purchased at the same time. The Wireless Device is as the descritpion very compact and was concerned at first at exactly how small it was. I was thinking, they have forgotten to install the electronics compoents inside it. Installation was a snap. I plugged it into one of the USB 2 ports on the WD Live. Turn on the WD Live and chose Wirless connection. It identified my wireless network, installed SSID Code and we was up and working within mintues. I have watched several movies and Youtube videos
without any problems. My wireless network is a 802.11G so I am not getting the max throughput that the Buffalo Wireless device can support since it can support 802.11 N. I gave it a 4 star on Relability as I haven't had any problems with it since I installed it about 30 days ago, I would like to see how it will work over the next 12 months. But as far as providing compact and ease of use for a USB2 wireless adapater, I don't know of any that would be better. Pass on this version of the device if you have a 64-bit OS. You can find the exact same device under other names very easily.

And shame on you Buffalo for not responding to the myriad of forum posts on this issue, especially since this is a very simple problem to resolve as the 64-bit drivers are right there on Ralink's site. Just a pain for non-technical types to get installed.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far, Nice little adapter, November 24, 2009

I had been wrestling around with several of these in the last few days; Linksys (Will never buy their stuff again), TrendNet, and finally this little Buffalo Nfinity. I've never owned a Buffalo product, but their CPU coolers get glowing reviews, and here's a glowing little review for this wireless USB adapter.

About the 64-Bit OS issues: Everyone's saying it won't work with 64-bit systems. This is kind of a half-truth, and I'll explain. No, the included disk will autorun and say OS not supported. I could not find a driver online, either. However, before I gave up hope to return one more of these damn things, I decided to just plug it into my Win7 Pro 64-bit OS and VOILA! Win 7 autoinstalled it, and now I have a quick little Wireless N adapter for only $40 from my local Fry's E. I can't speak for Vista 64-bit, as I never touched that OS more than once with failure. However, Win 7 is the way to go for a lot of your newer peripherals that Win XP simply didn't have drivers for. Not everything will auto install with Win 7, and I was pleasantly surprised when this Buffalo adapter just worked.

Build quality seems quite nice, being very tiny but sturdy. It has a nice little blue LED on the front right corner to indicate some movement of data, and only a simple clear cap for protection when not docked. You won't believe the speed you get outta something so small. Also, heat buildup doesn't seem too bad at all; after running it a while, it was only warm in our room which is about 72 degrees. On speed-test.net, from a Wireless-G router with 13 mbps connection, I was getting 35-50 ms ping time and 8-10.5 mbps download, with upload hovering around 2-3 mbps. This is a G router to the Buffalo Wireless-N adapter, Not bad!

I'm recommending it, so get one if you like compact cool stuff that works.

4.0 out of 5 stars Buffalo N Wifi Dongle, September 24, 2009

I bought this to supplement the internal wireless card on my HP computer that stopped working(don't buy HP), which was a draft n card. The speed of the dongle is great and on par with what my internal card was. One thing I did notice is that the buffalo appears to have better reception than the other one did. I consistently have one more bar than I used to. Set was really easy if you follow the directions and I was up and running in no time. The only issue I have is tha now occasionally pages won't load, but usually I just have to refresh the page and its fine. Also the device barely stick out of the computer once plugged in. It doesn't even stick out further than the battery pack on the back of my HP Tx1000 series laptop(again don't by this or the tx2000 series, they both have same faulty motherboards and power supplies creating my problem, common with this series). Also since I have a n speed router I set up the wifi adapter to be able to switch the mhz range it uses to take advantage of this. Its all part of the set up program. If you are getting only "g" speeds check that, because it defaults to the lower level setting. Hope this helps.

The device only supports 2.4GHz, which doesn't work for me since I have a dual band wi-fi, with BG supported on 2.4GHz and N on 5GHz.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Windows 7 32-bit, up and running in SECONDS, December 11, 2009

As the title states, I had this thing up and running in seconds.

Installation went like this:
The test system is an Acer AspireRevo AR1600-U910H Black/White Desktop PC (Windows XP Home) Nettop computer (which I have attached permanently to a 52" LCD TV in a conference room).
The system is running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit (it came with XP, I upgraded to Win 7).
I installed no drivers, didn't even open the packaged CD.
I plugged the device into the computer, Windows 7 recognized it and loaded drivers.
No reboot was required.
I immediately saw our wireless network (Cisco ABG APs), connected, and the rest is history.
I've had no connection problems and no driver issues.

It doesn't get much better than that.

There are plenty of other reviews here talking about issues with different OSes (or 64-bit Win 7), so read those if they apply to you... but if you are running Win 7 32 and you want to add wireless networking capabilities as easily as possible, this device will work for you.

Wanted to get something that doesnt project out from our laptop after our wireless card died out. This ultra compact USB wireless adapter is awesome. So far my 3 year old has not knocked it out of the laptop and the reception is good as expected. Running it on 802.11g.

I've bought this adapter to use on my Western Digital WDTV Live and I have just one word to describe it: Perfect. My WDTV Live is about 20 yards from my Dlink DIR 655 router and it is working without any problems. I can stream 720p MKV files without any drops.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Flawlessly, January 8, 2010

This review is from: Buffalo Technology Nfiniti Wireless-N Ultra Compact Client USB 2.0 Adapter WLI-UC-GN (Personal Computers)
I bought this for my husband's notebook after his onboard wireless went out. I initially bought a full sized wireless card only to find out the dang notebook did not HAVE a full sized slot but one of those stupid compact slots. Thank you Compaq for making garbage and then making it hard to fix by not even giving us a full sized card slot! NOT fun! So this VERY small USB wireless did the job perfectly. The connection is great all over the house and it installed easily with no problems. The small size of it is what we like the best. Who wants to carry around a notebook and have to be worried about the things you have plugged into it sticking out so far that it's easy to break them no matter how careful you are??!!

I Ordered one of the Buffalo Nfiniti adaptor for my Western Digital WD TV Live Network-ready HD Media Player WDBAAN0000NBK-NESN. It reached in time, the installation was very simple. the adapter is very small. I have put it in the back side of the Player. It is almost invisible from front. the connection speed is excellent. I used it both for network shares and to view youtube videos. It is a excellent product and i would recommend it to my friends.
