5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great!
One year of trying everything to get a destructive pesky mole out of my front lawn and this trap caught the trouble maker two hours after setting it up. Fantastic!

This product is not the same as a Cinch brand trap. You may get lucky and get something but I bought 4 and they did not work. The trip mechanism is set to far back from the end of the trap and it is not sensitive enough to go off when the gopher pushes dirt into the trap. Also the jaws are too big for the burrows I have. It went in but damaged the burrow so completely...

5.0 out of 5 stars Never missed yet, March 2, 2009
This review is from: Buffalo Tools CTRAP Sportsman Series Cinch Pest Trap (Lawn & Patio)
I have used this trap for years with perfect results; I currently own 8 of them. They are so effective, they often trap a gopher at the first trap while I'm setting a second trap. Easy to set and so reliable that my cat sits and watches the trap! I clear the property each Spring with a few traps, usually killing 20 or so gophers; then plant the garden. Occasionally get a gopher or two during the growing season, but they are quickly eliminated with a couple of traps. Rarely suffer any significant damage as long as I keep a wary eye on things.

Only negative, and it's minor, is that the spring will corrode and eventually fail (after several years). This can be avoided by oiling regularly with WD40, which the gophers seem to be attracted to unlike some other oils that may repel them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buffalo CTRAP vs. Cinch trap, July 24, 2011

This review is from: Buffalo Tools CTRAP Sportsman Series Cinch Pest Trap (Lawn & Patio)
Buffalo trap required some tweeking not as well constructed as the cinch trap. Does not trap well either the Buffalo Cinch trap has weeker springs than other cinch traps I own. Buffalo catches gophers 1 out of 10 tries, my other cinch traps catches 9 out of 10 tries. I bought the Buffalo traps as they were cheaper in cost. In this case you get what you pay for SORRY buffalo it's a no go for me. This product needs improving. specifically: stronger spring which would speed up catch arms, the trigger needs to be set at a different angle for smoother release I had to adjust the ones I bought to use the item. Good luck gopher hunters.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cinch Trap?, July 17, 2011

I don't know if these are authentic Cinch traps, but the quality of these traps compared to others with "Cinch" stamped on the plate is definitely lacking. These do not have Cinch stamped on them.

First of all, the spring tension of these is considerably lower than the originals. Yes, it's easier to set, but I found that if there is any shrub material or dirt impeding the travel of the moving latch, it will stop it from completely closing as compared to blasting through like the others do. The metal used on these traps are not as high a quality as the originals. Where the originals use spring steel for the noose and push rod, these are made of soft metal and can be easily bent with pliers. Lastly, these traps are basically non-functional as received. They are nicely packaged in individual plastic bags with bubble wrap and have a "made in China" sticker, but the trigger wire is bent so poorly that it doesn't retain the latch mechanism. I thought that maybe the first one that I unwrapped was damaged in shipping, but they were all that way. Luckily, a few tweeks with a pair of needle nosed pliers can make it work.

If you are at all mechanical and you don't mind spending a little time to make these work, then they're not bad for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars poorly manufactured, March 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I have used cinch traps to catch gophers successfully in the past. I decided to add another trap to my collection, but this one was poorly made and did not work at all as received. The second holding pin was installed incorrectly, and the trap trigger was not formed correctly at the end. With the aid of some pliers, it took about 15 minutes to fix the two problems. I recommend this style of trap but not from Buffalo Tools.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Design, March 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Buffalo Tools CTRAP Sportsman Series Cinch Pest Trap (Lawn & Patio)
I use the CTRAP manufactured by others. This particular design is poor, to say the least. The trigger is too far from the cinch when set. The trigger catch has to be reformed in order work. The spring is too strong for some women and some older folks. The cinch is also too wide when set.

There are no instructions with the package. You get the item as pictured in a bag, but that's all. I have no idea if it's susposed to go mostly above ground, under ground or a combination of both, not to mention how to arm it.

The moles now have a reprieve, for now.

1.0 out of 5 stars These are "CINCH" knock offs... and not very good ones., July 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Buffalo Tools CTRAP Sportsman Series Cinch Pest Trap (Lawn & Patio)
I did not receive the "cinch" brand and instead received what appears to be Buffalo Tools' knock off "Ctrap". The 3 that I received did not work at all. They could not be set and required me to bend the trip(trigger) mechanism using my original "cinch" traps as a model. There are several details that cinch has that is missing from the Buffalo Tools version such as the spring tension is less than "Cinch" and the entire network of little levers to set the trap is awkward to manipulate in comparison to the "cinch" brand. Awkward enough for me to question their reliability and operation in the field since the trap got locked "open" several times as I was dry testing their operation. The cinch is a more elegant design and smoother to operate and set... and they would work every time I tested them. In addition, the Buffalo Tools version is considerably larger than my cinch models and may be too big for the varmints I'm trapping. Since I haven't used them yet, I can not comment on their effectiveness or if they are in fact too big for home use on my little critters. I'm writing this primarily from my disappointment due to the fact that there is no way that these traps could work right out of the box and I have my doubts as to if they work well at all. I think I'll be returning them even if I get nailed for shipping. Order at your own risk. I would definitely recommend get getting the "cinch" brand instead. There is something to be said for quality and reliability... you rarely get a second shot at trapping these critters.
