This is a really cute book that I noticed in the new book section of the library. The rooster needs a spicy snack for the big game. He goes looking for buffalo wings and gains a vegetarian alternative and some new friends. A very cute book with great pictures. It was just absurd enough to keep my 8 year olds attention. I would recommend it for 2nd grade and below.

This had a similar feel to Chicks and Salsa, but wasn't nearly as detailed with the pictures, and the story wasn't as fun.

It's football season! The pigs have their nachos, the ducks have their quackamole but Rooster senses something is missing! Buffalo Wings! Failing to read the recipe in Mrs. Nuthatcher's cookbook to the end, he heads out in the farmer's pickup truck to find a buffalo. He has a few experiences on his way but finally finds what he is looking for. There's just one problem. He discovers that buffalo do not have wings! Needless to say that is when he rereads the recipe and discovers the truth! How embarrassing!

No worries, the buffalo invite him to join their football festivities where he discovers a liking for Jalapeno Hush Puppies. Rooster realizes though that without a game, a football snack is no good. What will he plan? A fun ending and guess what? The recipes for both Jalapeno Hush Puppies and Buffalo-Free Buffalo Wings are included!

Saw this in our school library and giggled while flipping through it and just KNEW I had to add it to my personal library! I knew the humor would be over some of my student's heads, but since they enjoyed "Chicks and Salsa" so much, and this was by the same author, they were ready for it. I was also surprised that many of them say they eat buffalo wings (my tongue's burning just thinking about it!) so they did have some schema for the story.

My son Jacob, 6 years old, loves Buffalo Wings. He took it into school for his day of "show and tell." The teacher read it to the class and it was a big hit. Not only is the story cute but, the illustrations are so colorful they really hold my sons attention. He loves trying to find the mouse on each page. Every time we eat out, he asks the waiter if they serve Buffalo Wings and then giggles!
