Book Description

Men-at-Arms June 15, 1972
The Buffs originated in 1572 from a company of 300 men raised from London trained bands sent to aid the Protestant cause in Holland. Upon their return to England, the Company re-formed as a single regiment, the Holland Regiment, which later became known as 'The Buffs'. In the years that followed, this highly esteemed regiment served in conflicts ranging from the Peninsular War to World Wars I and II. This book details the history of the Buffs from their inception to their demise as an independent unit in 1967, focusing particularly on their uniforms, including the distinctive dragon badge.

This review is from: The Buffs (Men-at-Arms) (Paperback)
This is a well written comprehensive look at the history of one of the oldest serving regiments in the British Army. This book was out of print for 30 years before Osprey issued a special reprint in 2002.

This review is from: The Buffs (Men-at-Arms) (Paperback)
Another example of the early Ospreys in that they either have great illustrations or great text but almost never both. This one is a great history of the 3rd Regiment of foot that had its start under Queen Elizabeth I. To its history of service to the Dutch and its final return to service under the Crown. It is here that the Regiment really blossumed. Its story then became the story of the Empire until its final disbandment.
A great story!
