Inspiring and Relevant,
This review is from: Buffy Saint-Marie (Vanguard Visionaries) (Audio CD)
While often overlooked, Buffy Sainte-Marie has made some significant contributions with her song writing and performing, since the early 1960's. Here is a short collection of re-mastered gems from Sainte-Marie's early work. Her classic "Universal Soldier" is included here as well as her ethereal "God is Alive, Magic is Afoot." Her music ranges from stark protest music, to phenomenal electronic music. All these songs still sound fresh and contemporary. Even included is her controversial country version of "Now That the Buffalo's Gone." After hearing this wonderful collection, it is worthwhile to explore Sainte-Marie's recent music, especially her 1992 Coincidence & Likely Stories. Her compassionate social activism and her mastery of digital music show Buffy Sainte-Marie is clearly a strong voice for the 21st century.

Nice collection,
This review is from: Buffy Saint-Marie (Vanguard Visionaries) (Audio CD)
This is a great collection of Buffy songs but there's a mistake as the last track isn't the one that appears. Instead, it's "Quiet Places" although a fabulous song. Joni Mitchell's song remake doesn't appear but only in the printed credits. Enjoy!

Poor show,

This review is from: Buffy Saint-Marie (Vanguard Visionaries) (Audio CD)
Vanguard Visionaries is an extraordinarily disappointing series, given that the label is being so stingy with its offerings. The label has an excellent roster. If they wanted to publicise their archives, they could have been a great deal more generous at this price - or else offered it for $6 or so. It's also disappointing that Vanguard is ignoring some of the wonderful stuff in its archives and focusing instead on meaningless releases of this variety - the "greatest hits" by the same artists, on the same label, are a much better deal.
