I recently purchased a Gem of Amara prop replica ring, and was somewhat disappointed by the quality. It is reasonably accurate to the ring portrayed in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel television series.

The ring itself looks somewhat cheaply cast, with obvious pits and scrapes. It is gold played, but in many places it looks very worn and tarnished. Whether this is to replicate the look of the original prop is unknown, but it looks less intentional and more a side effect of extremely low quality manufacturing. The "stone" is a semi-transparent green, and appears to be plastic, but possibly glass. The backing of the setting is a piece of metal hot-glued or epoxied, somewhat clumsily, into the underside.

It is one size, and not adjustable. While you could conceivably have it resized by a jeweller, it would most likely cost far more than the ring itself, and would damage the very cheaply-applied gold plating. It really does not "wear" well, but looks nice from a moderate distance as a display piece.

This is obviously an extremely low quality prop replica, as can be inferred from the very low price. Despite its many flaws, it is a must-have collectable for any BtVS or Angel fan. The presentation is very nice, and might actually be said to surpass the quality of the ring itself.

My only goal in writing this review is to make potential collectors aware that this is not quality jewelry, but rather an inexpensive piece of costume jewelry.

Being the rabid Buffy fan that I am, I was delighted when I found out that this ring was available to be bought. After reading some reviews stating the the ring quality was substandard, I was nervous about exactly what I would get. But since the price was SO low, I decided to chance it, and boy I'm glad I did. It arrived in under a week after I ordered it, and the ring came in a red velvet box with the Buffy logo stamped on the lid. The ring itself closely resembles the actual prop and it comes with a black cord with clasp, in case you plan on wearing it but the ring size (about an 8) doesn't fit your finger. I have seen some reviews saying that the ring was already tarnished upon opening, but for me this simply wasn't the case. The ring was in mint condition, it is not real gold of course, but what do you expect for under ten dollars? Overall, this was a great purchase, I highly recommend.

For die hard fans, who can forget that this ring was the center of matter of two crossover episodes between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel? While extremely well made, like most props, it's meant to be kept in a glass case and drooled over like all collectibles are. Having this makes you imagine what it was like to be on the set, sigh. A thoroughly enjoyable product. Highly recommended.

I purchased this prop and I think it is very nice. It does have a few tarnished looking places on the face of the ring, but I believe it makes it more realistic. I am very satisfied with my purchase.
