1.0 out of 5 stars Not Buffy
Buffy and Xander make a brief cameo in one short story where Buffy picks Xander up from Dracula's where he has been hypnotized to be Dracula's manservant. Other than that, neither Buffy nor any of her inner circle make any appearance here. If you're looking for overpriced generic vampire stories I guess this is OK, but it isn't Buffy.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you're a Buffy fan this is a must have, January 27, 2011
This review is from: Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales (Hardcover)
A beatifully presented Hardcover edition of the collected short stories 'Tales of the Slayer' and 'Tales of the Vampire'.

If you're a Buffy and Angel fan this book is a must have, it is written by the shows creator Joss Whedon as well as various writers from both series and comic book authors. The book devles deeper into the already dense mythology of Buffy's world telling stories of Slayers and Vampires throughout history.

I already owned the paperback editions of 'Tales of the Slayer' and 'Tales of the Vampire' but this new Hardcover edition is definatelty worth getting; the presentation is gorgeous and really shows off the beautiful artwork.
It also contains two brand new 'Tales of the Vampire' stories taking place in 'Buffy Season 8'.

I can only hope that Dark Horse treats us to Hardback editions of 'Buffy Season 8' and 'Fray' in the same vein to complete the collection.

The uniqueness of each story is more prominent when set, side by side, with each other. The difference in art style is stark, and sometimes jarring, but beautifully rendered in this edition. The writing is best when focused on the gray. There are so many other tales to tell, I would definitely ask for more slayer tales. As much as I love the cover, it seems like a cheap attraction - Buffy, Spike & Angel only get 1 story each (Buffy's is actually the shortest and most inconsequential). These are truly the tales of the others - the slayers that came before Slayer comma The and the two souled vampires.

Great read - a perfect supplement to your Season 8 collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just spectacular, February 5, 2011
This review is from: Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales (Hardcover)
This is a huge, oversized hardcover collection, and it's just gorgeous. I already owned nearly everything in the hardcover, but after seeing this in person, there was no question it was a must buy. No Buffy comics have ever gotten a better presentation than this. Bring on Fray and Season 8 in this format, Darkhorse.

I'd already had the regular volumes of Tales of the Vampires and Tales of the Slayers, but combined and enlarged it's simply really good! I like the artwork a great deal and the how the stories have cameos of the key players (buffy, spike and dru, angel and even xander). but for the most part, alot of the characters are completely original and they don't intertwine with the buffy storyline. Jo Chen's coverwork for Buffy is always on point, from the shape of sarah michelle gellar's nose, to david boreanaz's forehead space, to even anthony head's distinguishing marks on his face (crow's feet, forehead creases, the faint scar on his forehead), this lady doesn't miss a thing. Anyone who reads the issues and sees her artisty can agree on that. I'd recommend this, not only if you are just into collecting merchandise from the Whedon-verse franchise but also for the stories inside as well as the creative art. enjoy :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Tales of the Slayers + Tales of the Vampires... & more!, February 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales (Hardcover)
I finished reading this yesterday. I bought it right when it came out but was at first confused as to what was included. For those of you wondering, this includes the complete "Tales of the Slayers" as well as "Tales of the Vampires." OH... But there's more! The Slayers section concludes with the one-shot comic book "Broken Bottle of Djinn" & the Vampires section ends with the Season 8 comics "The Thrill" & "Carpe Noctum." There's also a cover gallery in the back.

So if you don't already own "Tales of the Vampires" & "Tales of the Slayers," buy this book! Heck, even if you do own them already, get it again! 'Cause this is much better. The pages are blown up so you can better appreciate the artwork, it's hardcover bound so it'll last FOREVER, it has a beautiful dust jacket & it even has one of those cloth bookmarks...fancy!

Basically, this book is awesome. It even has Angel on the cover. Definitely a deal maker. Stop reading this review and add "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: TALES" to your cart... NOW!

If you end up hating this (not gonna happen), you'll have an awesome paperweight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic edition but where's Buffy?, June 16, 2011
By
This review is from: Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales (Hardcover)
"Tales" is so beautifully illustrated and has a nice balance between old school Buffy and the continued Season Eight graphic novel series. The Slayer and Vampire stories, told by various authors and illustrators, blend well together and delve deeper into the psyche of both groups. Although I do wish Buffy and the Scoobies had made more of an appearance in the collection (aside from my favorite tale involving Dracula and Xander). Angel and Spike have key stories and other characters are tied in throughout including a brief introduction on what happened to Harmony Kendall, former high school it girl turned vampire who "outs" the vamps of the world through mainstream media. I loved this volume overall and recommend it to all die hard Buffy fans; however, if you are not familiar with Joss Whedon's world, you may need to take a fresh look at the original series.

The presentation of this volume is marvelous, rivaling Marvel's hardbacks. The artwork is variable, but stays in the range from good to brilliant, so there is nothing to complain about there.
The stories are all top notch, with some that are truly marvelous. The season 8 stories are very good, and tie in with season 8 really well. I was disappointed with the Fray story (which, I must admit, was my main reason for buying this). It was far, far too short, and added almost nothing to the Fray mythology. It bridged the gap between "Fray" and the season 8 crossover, but it is a very little bridge, indeed.
This is a volume that takes multiple readings, and it gets better with each one. When I first read it, I rushed through, and missed much of the depth and texture crammed into the few pages for each story. Having re-read all the stories multiple times, I can now confidently say this is a brilliant volume, and a must have for all Buffy fans!

I enjoy Buffy but is is good to find out about Slayers that came before her.
All the stories collected in this edition are good.
I think Buffy fans would like to read about other slayers and will find these stories enjoyable
