James Marsters as Spike wants to sink his teeth into you,
By Lawrance M. Bernabo (The Zenith City, Duluth, Minnesota) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (COMMUNITY FORUM 04) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) Spike, also known as William the Bloody for his "bloody awful" attempts at romantic poetry, was a vampire completely without remorse. The original inspiration for Spike and the mad-vampiress Drusilla was Sid and Nancy, as in Sid Vicious of the punk group The Sex Pistols and groupie Nancy Spungen whose tragic love story was told in Alex Cox's 1986 film "Sid and Nancy." History was rewritten a bit from the "School Hard" episode where Spike claimed that Angel was his sire to giving Drusilla the honor. Spike killed two Slayers, one in China during the Boxer Rebellion and the other on a New York City subway, but forgoes the hat trick when he ends up falling for Buffy. This 11 x 14 celebrity post card shows James Marsters dressed up as Spike on the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" set. Marsters, despite Spike's English accent, is from California and attended the prestigious Julliard, the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, and the American Conservatory Theatre. After guest spots on shows like "Northern Exposure" and "Moloney", his big breakthrough came in with his first appearance as the bleached blond British Spike. Originally only hired for a few episodes, Marsters became a regular on "BtVS" in the show's fourth season and joined the cast of "Angel" for that show's final season despite having been killed in the "BtVS" finale. Then, as soon as "Angel" was over, he shaved off his peroxide locks for chairty on "The Ryan Seacrest Show" to raise cash for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation in Los Angeles Not shaved as in completely bald; you can check out the photos of the event on line.
