A Family Classic,
By A Customer
This review is from: Buford the Little Bighorn (Paperback)
This book was my husband's favorite book in the 60s when he was in elementary school. Now we read it to our children, along with many other Bill Peet books. We love the illustrations, plots and rhymes in Bill Peet's books. Buford is a sweet and innocent mountain goat dealing with a handicapping condition (oversized curling horns) that threatens his safety. Then when he's cornered he discovers a way to use his horns not only to escape the hunters, but to ski. And everyone at the ski resort loves him and makes him welcome. If you like this one, try Eli, Cowardly Clyde, and The Wump World.

Buford is my FAVORITE Bighorn,
By A Customer
This review is from: Buford the Little Bighorn (Hardcover)
These are my absolute favorite pictures from Bill Peet. Buford has trouble with his tribe due to being smaller than the other bighorns, but manages to find a way to be proud in spite of the opinions of others.

My son loves Bill Peet books, me too. This is a cute one, good message as usual. I like other Bill Peet books better, like Smokey or The Caboose that Got Loose or Cyrus the Unsinkable Sea Serpent. But this one is really nice.

I loved Bill Peet books as a child, and I still really like them today. I recently bought the whole set so that my children will have them, and realized that I remember every character and every plot from 20+ years ago when my parents read them to me. They really made an impact on me. The illustrations are cute and captivating, the characters are engaging, the stories and well told, and each book has a meaning. There are few authors who can create such a fine balance in childrens' books.

This book was a favorite of my brother-in-law's so I bought it on his recommendation. My kids loved it!I thought it would be too long for my younger ones, but they enjoyed the pictures, and the action keeps everyone involved. I even took this book to read to my son's first grade class. The students paid attention the whole time I was reading. At the end they wanted to ask questions and talk about sweet Buford. It has a great message of helping others, putting others first, and looking on the bright side of things. What Buford thought of as an affliction turned out to be of great benefit (and fun!). |
